LITERARY
JOSEPH COULTER - BEST NEWS STORY
The End Is Near  – an informative and well written article by Andrew Georgiou on the imminent closure of Harold Park, following the announcement the last race meeting would be held at the iconic Sydney track on December 17 this year. The story was on the front page of the National Trotguide on August 19, 2010.
GRAHAM GOFFIN MEMORIAL AWARD – BEST FEATURE OF THE YEAR
Women in Harness Racing – a detailed feature series covering the difficult journey navigated by women to become an integral part of harness racing in Australia, written by Ken Dyer and John Peck and published in the July/August 2010 edition of Harness Racing International.
GRAHAM GOFFIN MEMORIAL AWARD – BEST HISTORIAL FEATURE
Moonee Valley Magic – another fine piece of journalism by Adam Hamilton, this topical feature revisited some of the highlights of more than three decades of harness racing at Moonee Valley. It was published as a double page spread in the Herald Sun on Thursday February 4, 2010, two days prior to the last race meeting at the popular Melbourne circuit.
BEST BOOK
The Colourful World of Harness Racing - is not a weighty tome on the history of harness racing or an entertaining story of some of the great characters and champions to have graced our tracks, but Max Agnew has created a unique book targeted at children. It is a colouring-in book for kids with poetry, tracing the life of a standardbred. Imaginative and creative!
BEST PUBLISHED ACTION OR STILL PHOTOGRAPH
The Poetry of pacing is captured in this lovely action shot by Peter Staples at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart on July 4, 2010. Published in the harness racing section of the “tasracing” website, it shows Gareth Rattray urging Levina Leis to the lead to record his 100th winner for the season.
BEST RADIO FEATURE TO AIR
Neil Busse – The Finale – An insightful interview covering the many highlights and achievements during Neil Busse’s reign as HRV Chairman by Len Baker on Harness Review 979FM on 12 April 2010.
AWARDS OF MERIT FOR DEMONSTRATED EXCELLENCE IN PROMOTION
A Trip Down Memory Lane - Nominated by Cowra Harness Racing Club.
The Cowra Harness Racing Club is to be congratulated on this outstanding promotion in March 2010. Club secretary Joedy Lee and retired journalist Barry Doyle collaborated on compiling a history of the club, which was published in the Cowra Guardian on Friday, March 26, 2010. It was part of a weekend of celebration of harness racing at Cowra and involved tracking down many who had been involved in the early days. It culminated in a successful race meeting on Sunday March 28 – and everything was captured in an enthralling video.
