Foreclosure (NZ)

HRA stallion registrations for the 25/26 breeding season recently opened and Western Australian based stallion Foreclosure (NZ) is the first to register for the new season.

Foreclosure: Proven Speed, Proven Sire, Proven Future

Foreclosure a New Zealand-bred pacer who would go on to make his mark racing in North America. His resume is impressive, combining raw speed, toughness, and pedigree.

As a two-year-old, Foreclosure was a five-time winner, including victory in the New Jersey Sire Stakes Championship. He paced Freehold in 1:54.3 and took out his Breeders Crown Elimination, setting a freshman mark of 1:52.1 at Pocono Downs – just one-fifth of a second outside the track record.

At three, he announced himself among the elite, pacing a sizzling 1:49.2 and competing against the very best of his generation. He made the finals of both the Meadowlands Pace and the $1.5M North America Cup, storming home with his last three-quarters in 1:20 flat to finish a fast-closing fourth.

As an aged horse, Foreclosure’s brilliance continued. He added eight more wins to his record, including the prestigious American National Classic at Balmoral Park, defeating stars like Foiled Again, Golden Receiver, and Aracache Hanover. That day he cut out fractions of 26.2, 53.0, and 1:19 before stopping the clock in a career-best 1:48.4.

Foreclosure retired with 53 starts, 15 wins, 5 seconds, 8 thirds, and earnings of $807,746.

Tim Tetrick, who drove Foreclosure on several occasions, described him perfectly:

“He really liked to do his work. I only drove him a few times, but every time I did, he gave a great effort. He had a beautiful gait and plenty of speed — all great attributes to make a top stallion.”

Pedigree and Performance Combine

Foreclosure is sired by the champion Rocknroll Hanover and from the outstanding race mare Pleasing Package (by Fake Left), herself a winner of over $359,000 and 38 wins. Pleasing Package was bred down under and was campaigned in Australia and the states before becoming a broodmare back in NZ before returning to Australian shores.

Kody Charles of KTC Bloodstock recalls how the relationship with the Delaney family of Oakwood Stud Ireland began:

“We had the broodmare Pleasing Package here in Australia. When Derek Delaney came over to watch the Perth Inter Dominion a few years ago, we got talking, and that’s how the partnership started. My parents Kevin and Annette Charles are actually heading over to Ireland later this year for the Vincent Delaney Memorial – a massive weekend of racing in honour of Derek and James Delaney’s late brother, Vincent.”

Siring Success in Two Hemispheres

Foreclosure’s first Australian foals arrived in 2019. From limited numbers, he’s made a big impact:

  • 29 foals to race for 21 winners
  • Progeny earnings exceeding $1.1 million
  • Average earnings per starter: $38,359
  • Group 1 two-year-old winner Belly Up ($195,000)
  • Fast-class pacer All Is Well ($179,000)
  • Talented mare Pocketful Of Opals ($112,000)
  • Yearlings sold up to $55,000

In North America, Foreclosure’s statistics are equally impressive:

  • 30 starters (100% starters to foals)
  • 25 winners, including 23 in 1:55 or better
  • 13 $100,000+ earners
  • Total progeny earnings: $3,867,723
  • Average earnings per starter: $128,924

       Notable winners include:

  • Oakwood In It To Win It ($451,000)
  • Drunk On Your Love ($441,000)
  • Churchview Frankel ($268,225)
  • Oakwood Paddy ($214,795)
  • Oakwood Annabella ($212,960)

Borninlockdown paced 1.48.2 on a 1000 meter track recently and has nearly earned $100,000. He was exported to the USA last year.

He’s also now proving himself as a broodmare sire. His daughter Rosemary Rose ($620,000) is producing stars, including Rose, who went 1:50.2 at two and already has 7 wins from 13 starts with over $409,000 in earnings.

A Correct Stallion with a Bright Future

Standing at 15.1 hands, Foreclosure is a beautifully conformed stallion whose progeny are noted for their athleticism and speed. His bloodlines, results, and temperament make him a standout option for breeders looking to inject proven quality into their mares.

Foreclosure is available Australia-wide this season through KTC Bloodstock via Frozen Semen for a fee of $2,000.
