To say Kevin Seymour has a good eye for a horse is a massive understatement. Seymour has been involved in harness racing for 55 years and has raced some of the best pacers ever to grace Australian tracks.

He bought reigning Interdominion champion Leap to Fame for $47,500 at the 2020 APG Sydney yearling sale. The horse has won 29 of his 39 starts and $1.8 million. He was hailed as one of the best pacers in the world after his clean sweep of the Brisbane Interdominion in December.

“We have had a couple of offers from America but he will continue to race in Australia for (wife) Kay and myself for the time being,” Seymour said.

He also bought Mr Feelgood from the US to race in Australia. He went on to win multiple grand circuit races, including the 2009 Interdominion final, the AG Hunter Cup, the Queensland Pacing Championship (twice) and the Victoria Cup.

The Seymours have also had outstanding success with horses they have bred.

Mach Three stallion Colt Thirty One (1.51.2, $1mil) won 43 three races at Albion Park, including the Group 1 Blacks A Fake and the two-year-old colts Queensland Triad final. He also won the 2018 Victoria Derby.

The Seymours also bred star youngster Majestic Mach (1.53.9, $796K). His wins in the two-year-old Australian Pacing Gold final and the Queensland Derby were highlights in his 13 classic wins.

Good Lookin Girl (1.53.7, $360K), winner of the Group 1 NSW Ladyship Mile and the Group 1

Victorian Queen Of The Pacific, was another star performer from the Seymour nursery.

The Seymours, trading as Solid Earth Pty Ltd, will offer two lots in the APG Gold Coast sale on January 28. And buyers are sure to take notice when Kevin Seymour says the Always B Miki colt (Lot 27) is “as close to the perfect racehorse as you can get.”

“He is magnificently conformed. He really looks the part,” Seymour said. “The Always B Mikis are the sort of horses that keep getting better. Future Assured (Always B Miki – French Charm) gave us a great sight in the Interdominion final and we plan to set him for the Miracle Mile. We think he will be suited to Menangle.”

The sale colt is out of Mach Three mare Fire One, who has already produced promising two-year-old Firebolt (1.55.3, $28K). He is from the family of million dollar earner Bettors Fire.

Solid Earth’s other lot in the sale (Lot 5) is a filly by American Ideal from the outstanding race mare Aqua Miss (1.52.1, $159K), who won the Queensland Triad and a heat of the Victoria Derby as a three-year-old.

This outstanding filly family includes Queensland Triad winner Bettor Promise (1.53.2, $243K) and Queensland Oaks winner All Promises (1.56.5, $220K).

“We raced Aqua Miss and she gave us a lot of fun,” Seymour said. “Her filly is a good strong type. She is a nice size and well conformed, from a solid filly family.”
