A full sister to a Hankook Tyres Hunter Cup winner and a half-sister to an Australian 2YO of the Year are among an impressive line-up of yearlings being offered at the 2007 Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, conducted by Graeme Board and Company and Aussco.
The sale will be held at the plush William Inglis Complex, Oaklands Junction on Sunday, January 28, starting at 11am.
Prospective purchasers will be able to view the yearlings in a relaxed atmosphere at the Yearling Parade and BBQ lunch on the Saturday from 1pm. Excellent prizes will be awarded for the best presented colt and filly.
All horses nominated for the sale may be eligible for the 2008 Knowles Plasterers Sales Graduate Pace carrying an anticipated stake of $20,000.
The classic, to be staged at a Victorian provincial venue in May 2008, is proudly supported by Harness Racing Victoria and Graeme Board/Aussco.
The majority of yearlings are heavily staked for rich series such as Vicbred, V75 Australasian Breeders Crown and the Bathurst Gold Crown.
Sales co-ordinator Peter Dow said, “There’s a lovely line-up of fillies to choose from. It’s a great way to buy future broodmares.”
“It’s a reserved sale and all horses are for genuine sale.”
The sale features an array of youngsters by many of the best stallions available to Australian and New Zealand breeders. These include Astreos (3 lots), Jennas Beach Boy, Live Or Die (6), Safely Kept (3), Armbro Operative, Holmes Hanover (3),Village Jasper (8), Aces N Sevens (7), D M Dilinger, Jet Laag (13) and Pacific Fella (16).
Apart from these established sires, a range of well-bred, young newcomers will add interest to the sale. Three Cam Fella line horses in Camcracker (7 lots), E Dees Cam (5) and Cammibest are represented by their first Australian crop, along with the Western Hanover horse Red River Hanover.
Vendors from every mainland State are represented. One of Australia’s most successful breeders, Kevin Newbound, trading as Forest Lodge Standardbreds, has the biggest entry with 13 lots.
Other high profile breeders and studmasters with strong entries include Yirribee Pacing Stud (NSW), Peter Gleeson, Lynrose Stud, Stan Walker, Graeme Gourley, Warwick Stud, McDonald Pegasus Group, Sheron Park, Neville Cranston, Hopetoun Park, Macray Lodge and Royalstar Farm (WA).
A feature of the catalogue is the high percentage of race-winning and winner-producing dams, including a number of “black type” performers.
Two-minute or classic winning dams with progeny are headed up by Kiwaussie Girl, winner of the Western Crown and WA Solid Gold Bracelet, Eve Of Eden 1:59, Southern Jaye (Qld. 2YO Breeders Classic), True Right 1:58.8, Gone Heavy (NSW Golden Easter Egg), Dantelah 1:58.9 (Cons. Breeders Crown), Love The Look, Role Model (ht. Aust. Gold), Fays Pride and Empress Vic.
A half-sister to the 2003 Australian 2YO of the Year Kathryn Dancer 1:50.6 ($315,843), winner of the Bathurst Gold Crown and Australian Pacing Gold, and Surstromming 1:58.8, and a sister to last year’s Hankook Tyres Hunter Cup and Tasmanian Championship winner About To Rock 1:58.5 ($551,727) are two of the headline acts at the sale.
There’s half-brothers or sisters to an outstanding array of cup, classic and group winning performers including the Vicbred 2YO champion and Seymour Nursery Pace winner Man Ona Flight 1:59.3, Scent (NSW Oaks), speed merchant Ablazin Star 1:55 (NSW Qantas Sprint), All Four Firing 1:56 (WA Champagne Stakes), Safe Breaker 1:57.7 (Vic. Tatlow Stakes), Flighty Lisa 1:57.4 (Vic. Youthful), Locked Away (Vic. Sires Classic & SA Golden Nursery), In Town Tonight (Aust. Gold 3YO Final), Lunchbox Legend 1:53.8 (QBred 3YO Breeders Classic) and Reckon Ya Ready (Tas. Guineas).
