In recent months, Racing Queensland (RQ) has conducted research and testing for the detection of the substance known as COBALT.

It is accepted Cobalt is a substance detectable in most if not all horses due to dietary intake. Cobalt in a variety of forms including cobalt chloride is present in a variety of pre mixed feeds and supplements, however if used according to the manufactures guidelines typically will not elevate to a level which could be deemed a breach of the rules.

The purpose of this notice is to advise participants that Racing Queensland acknowledges the presence of cobalt and that a threshold is currently being developed to establish and regulate nonstandard use in the industry.

Racing Queensland reserves the right to refer frozen samples and the referee component (B Portion) of previously tested samples for further analysis.
