HRV will revert to the National Whip Rule from April 1, 2011

The Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) Board has resolved to revert to the National Rule in relation to whip use.

As a result of an extensive review and consultative process, a decision was made that will see Victoria adopt the same rule that is applied in other states.

In consultation with the Victorian Harness Trainers and Drivers Association (VHRTDA) and on the evidence and information available, the HRV Board has agreed to adopt ARHR 156(2) with a commencement date effective April 1, 2011.

HRV CEO John Anderson said, “As a result of this decision, Victoria will fall into line with the rest of Australia. HRV will be relaying information to drivers and the industry in the coming weeks as to how the rule will be implemented in Victoria.

Upon being advised of the decision, VHRTDA President Danny Mullan said, “We are extremely pleased with the decision that was reached by the HRV Board after a period of review and consultation. It has been the Association’s view that Victoria should be consistent with the rest of Australia to avoid any confusion. We look forward to the implementation of the new rule from April 1.”
