News: Racing Wrap ( 69 %)
The last 9 months have been a nightmare for the talented Franco Nester and his Bankstown trainer Martin Herbert. After breaking the Wagga Wagga track record in November last year, Herbert discovered the son of Bettors Delight had fractured his pastern and was forced off the track for five months to recuperate. On returning to the stable, Franco Nester suffered an entrapment of the epiglottis which Herbert believes led to a massive haemorrhage. “It hasn’t been a great time for Franco Nester” Herbert said. “During some trackwork his epiglottis became stuck and cut races but Herbert is desperately looking for an event to suit him. “He is classed M8 now and in that company you never get an easy race so I am looking to try and find a nice race for him away from the city. I really just want to ease him into it.” “The long term plan with Franco

News: Moonee Valley - Friday Night ( 64 %)
9 October, 2003 Franco Heir ( pictured ) will continue his Mallia Builders Kilmore Cup preparation tomorrow night at Moonee Valley, but it's his next start that has officials already salivating. Trainer Martin Herbert has earmarked a clash with Victorian Horse of the Year Mont Denver Gold at the Valley on Friday week. "Win, lose or draw tomorrow night he'll clash with Mont Denver Gold in the M2-M3 next week," Herbert declared. "That'll be his last hitout before Kilmore and I hold no fears about clashing with September. Victory tomorrow night would take the lightly raced six-year-old's earnings past the $300,000 mark and ensure his prominence in early Cup discussions. Herbert has long earmarked Kilmore's $100,000 feature on 26 October as Franco Heir's return to Group 1 action . From there, Victoria's two marquee events, the $250,000 SEW-Eurodrive Victoria Cup and $400,000 A.G.Hunter Cup, are firmly on the drawing board. News: Franco Nester out of series ( 57 %)
Bankstown trainer Martin Herbert has told the owners of Franco Nester to withdraw the horse from the upcoming Inter Dominion series in Christchurch in New Zealand. The Inter Dominion second round rankings were released earlier this week and Franco Nester had dropped one spot to 26 but would have almost been guaranteed a start in the 36 horse series should the connections have wanted one. “It’s a $20,000 gamble to fly the horse across to New Zealand for two runs and if you draw poorly in the first round of heats the trip is all but over.” Herbert said. “He’s not up there with the very best but he is a nice horse and I sold the idea of an Inter Dominion trip to the owners on the back of the series being a once in a lifetime experience but in his current form it is probably best that we stay at home and look at something a bit easier.” Herbert was
