Our Dolly Would after last week?s NSW Trotters Oaks.

Former kiwi filly Our Dolly Would will line up in this week’s New South Wales Trotters Derby after winning last week’s NSW Trotters Oaks at Tabcorp Park Menangle. The daughter of Artsplace started her racing career as a pacer and despite winning a Gr. 1 trotting event, trainer and owner Martin Herbert has not ruled out switching the filly back to a pacing gait later on in her career to add to her stud value.

“She’s not a trotter that can pace but a pacer that can trot, very quickly,” Herbert said.

“She is dual gaited and to be honest she is a flying machine as a pacer and could run a 28 second quarter blindfolded, I wouldn’t mind giving her the chance of running a sub 2 minute mile at Menangle in both gaits.”

Our Dolly Would only arrived in Australia last week and had little time to settle in before winning last Friday night.

“She arrived here on the Monday and raced on the Friday and as soon as they went so hard early I knew they weren’t going to beat her in the Oaks because she is just so strong.”

“I had the option of leaving her in New Zealand for the upcoming Harness Jewels but the three year old trotters all race in the one division and there is no preferential treatment for the fillies at the barrier draw so I wasn’t going to leave her there and have a chance of a poor draw.”

Our Dolly Would will have three more runs after Saturday night before going for a spell.

“The plans were to bring her over for the NSW Oaks and Derby and then concentrate on the Victorian Trotters Oaks heat and final before heading to the South Australian Trotters Oaks and while she is taking on the boys this week I really think she is going to be very hard to beat because she wasn’t all that far behind New Zealand’s best three year old Paramount Gee Gee.”

The Taylor Made Travel NSW Trotters Derby is race six at Menangle on Saturday night and will begin at 7:47pm.

Harness Racing NSW (HRNSW) is the controlling body for harness racing in New South Wales with responsibility for commercial and regulatory management of the industry including 31 racing clubs across the State.
