Race 1
KLITSCHO LEIS (8) looks set to receive every chance to break through for a maiden victory after two solid efforts at his past couple of starts. He follows out the speedy beginner SPORTS READER (2), which should allow him to settle handy on the speed and prove hard to beat. POSTER STORM (9) resumes from a lengthy spell but impressed in a recent trial and drops back in class compared to the opposition he faced last preparation. While still a little green at times, natural improvement would see him loom as the danger. ONLY GLORY (3) has been better at her past few runs and should settle on speed, giving her a good chance to finish on the podium. SPORTY GRANT (4) will also be looking to do the same with better luck in running after recent efforts from back in the field, while QUAY (5) showed glimpses of ability as a two-year-old and with improvement this preparation could be finishing off strongly.
Selections KLITSCHO LEIS (8), POSTER STORM (9), ONLY GLORY (3), SPORTS READER (2)
Race 2
A LOT LIKE PENDLES (1) draws perfectly and with his good gate speed should give himself every opportunity to break through in the state after arriving from Victoria. He was very good first up when working forward to the front before being narrowly beaten in extremely fast time over the mile. BELIEVEITOR NOT (5) was the odds-on favourite in that same race but could only manage third, beaten 32 metres, largely due to the brutal tempo they ran. From the draw over the longer 2150 metres, she may press forward and sit outside the leader and looks the clear danger. COME ON SHARKY (2) broke his maiden first up in the state at Burnie when showing good gate speed and while he should land on speed again, this represents a rise in class. CUZZY JUNIOR (9) and WEE GEORGIE WOOD (10) look the next best from the back row and will be hoping for genuine tempo to allow them to work into the race.
Selections A LOT LIKE PENDLES, BELIEVEITOR NOT (5), CUZZY JUNIOR (9), WEE GEORGIE WOOD (10)
Race 3
I AM CAESAR (1) looks the likely early leader and produced an improved effort last start at Burnie after a disappointing first-up run in the state. OH NO NEVER AGAIN (5) has been very consistent in this grade for some time and may press forward early to attempt to find the top. Either way, settling on speed should see him very competitive again. DANCINWIVJOLENE (2) has good gate speed to secure a forward position and should land handy with cover, giving her a strong chance in this race. CEE TEE CHELSEA (6) was driven aggressively over the final stages at Burnie last start and was narrowly defeated. She may need to settle further back here, but with luck in running she can be charging home late. It would be surprising if the winner didn’t come from that group. From the back row, JILLIBY JAY SEA (8), FIVE STAR SHARK (10) and DEBT TILL WE PART (11) will all be looking to run on strongly and could feature in the top four with the right tempo.
Selections OH NO NEVER AGAIN (5) , I AM CAESAR (1), DANCINWIVJOLENE (2), CEE TEE CHELSEA (6)
Race 4
INTO THE DARKNESS (1) and SHES ALLABOUTLUV (2) were both very impressive first-up winners in the state, scoring by comfortable margins. INTO THE DARKNESS (1) looks the likely leader here, which should give her the tactical advantage, though SHES ALLABOUTLUV(2) may possess a slight class edge at her best and will be looking to use that strength late. KARALTA ARTEMIS (5) and FRANCO VAI (6) both have good gate speed and should position handy, giving them their best chance of finishing in the first four. Most runners in the field bring either winning form or multiple placings, so the result may come down to which runner secures the best run in transit. NORBET (3) and DEFENCE ATTORNEY (7) could both enjoy soft runs just behind the speed and may hold an advantage if the race unfolds to suit.
Selections SHES ALLABOUTLUV (2), INTO THE HARKNESS (1), DEFENCE ATTORNEY (7), NORBET (3)
Race 5
MIKIYOURSOFINE (9) has been in excellent form of late and arguably should have added another win last start when interfered with on the corner just as he was looming up to win. Over the mile he will be relying on genuine speed up front, which looks likely with fast beginners engaged. THEE OLD BOMB (4) may look to cross and find the pegs early, which could make things tricky for the main danger DIDYALOUSAROOSTA (1), who will be attempting to kick up and hold the lea. There is not a great deal of winning or placing form among the rest of the field, though MISTA EAGLE (2) gets his preferred mile distance and should enjoy a soft run on speed. KEEPERS IDEAL (7) can be driven more conservatively and could be dangerous late with clear running, while HAMMER DAN (6) at his best would be right in the finish but will require strong tempo and luck in transit from the wide draw.
Selections MIKIYOURSOFINE (9), DIDYALOUSAROOSTA (1), THEE OLD BOMB (4), MISTA EAGLE (2)
Race 6
The open class race shapes as a tactical affair with plenty of gate speed drawn across the front row over the middle distance. If the early tempo is as strong as expected, it could play into the hands of HORATIUS SPECULO (6), who from the wide gate can be driven for luck and unleash his fast-finishing sprint, similar to his strong fifth in the Tasmanian Cup last week. RAKADAN (2) led and won well against similar company two starts ago and while he may not cross the pole marker LYNRYD SKYNRYD (1), he should secure a favourable run on speed with cover. WHISKEY CAVALIER (3) possesses brilliant gate speed and will likely have a crack for the lead early. His first-up sixth in the state was better than it reads after being used early in a fast-run race, beaten only 15 metres. IRON CLAD (4) appears back to something near his best following his past two efforts and will also appreciate genuine tempo, as will KEAYANG FITZY (8) and STEPPING STONES (9) from their trailing back row draws. In a race with plenty of depth, the result may come down to which runner receives the most economical run in transit.
Selections HORATIUS SPECULO (6), RAKADAN (2), WHISKEY CAVALIER (3), IRON CLAD (4)
Race 7
MAGIC JOE (8) showed his best form last start when flashing home from the rear even though the on-speed horses ran strong time themselves. The trailing draw behind the likely leader should see him positioned handy to midfield and given his chance late. MY WAY (2) has been racing very well of late but has often had to work hard to find the front. With little obvious speed engaged here, his chances of controlling the race improve significantly. RAY DAN (1) has been spotted hitting the line strongly at his past few runs and while he can occasionally do things wrong early, the pole draw should see him settle handy and be a major danger with clear running. ANOTHER NIEN (7) again draws awkwardly but probably should have won his past two starts and cannot be dismissed despite relying on luck in transit. INVITATION ONLY (9) resumes in the state for Jordy Chibnall after competing in metropolitan races in Melbourne and impressed winning a trial here two weeks ago, so his class should see him finishing strongly.
Selections MAGIC JOE (8), MY WAY (2), RAY DAN (1), INVITATION ONLY (9)
Race 8
The Carrick Cup over the longer distance shapes as a very competitive contest with several in-form runners engaged. MIGHTY JOLT (2) was very impressive winning first up in the state over the staying trip last week, sprinting sharply in the closing stages, and he boasts an excellent stand-start record. If he settles anywhere on speed, he will be hard to beat. PHOTO First (5) is chasing six straight wins and continues to step up in grade successfully as he works through the classes. This is another rise and his first attempt from the stand, though with a safe beginning he should again be right in the finish. CUSTOM HARLEY (1) may be the best horse in the race and drops back in class after competing in Tasmanian Cup heats and Hobart Cups where he was driven aggressively. His stand-start trial was safe but steady, though if he can settle close enough he may outstay these late. IMPERIAL LAz (8) is racing in excellent form and was good last start when following MIGHTY JOLT (2) throughout. He will again be hoping for a good cart into the race and genuine tempo to bring him into contention. It would not surprise to see several runners feature in the placings, though those settling in the first half of the field during the run may prove hardest to beat.
Selections MIGHTY JOLT (2), CUSTOM HARLEY (1), PHOTO FIRST (5), IMPERIAL LAZ (8)
Race 9
MUZZAME MATE (1) finally draws favourably and looks set to lead, giving him his chance to return to the winner’s circle. He should have enough gate speed to hold the front from this moderate line-up unless PARK LANE (5) decides to apply early pressure. JEREMY WELLS (7) secures a nice trailing draw and should enjoy the pegs run he prefers, hoping gaps appear late. JUST LIKE A DREAM (3) had strung together two wins before having no luck last start when inconvenienced early in a fast-run race. MARY MOURNE (4) brings competitive Riverina form and the market may provide a guide to her chances, while ANDAMAN BAY (6), LOYOLA TRIOS (9) and GOBSMACKED (10) look the best of the remainder but will rely on genuine tempo to bring them into the race from their awkward draws.
Selections MUZZAME MATE (1), JUST LIKE A DREAM (3), JEREMY WELLS (7), MARY MOURNE (4)
