Race 1:

OVERVIEW: TOO THE MAX (5) began fast to find the lead and dominated his rivals when he easily won his heat of this series. He is a good chance of finding the lead again and will take catching. BREATHE EASY (2) attempted to lead throughout and was run down at the end when third in his heat. He won at his previous two attempts and will gain a prominent position in the early stages again so he must be respected. BREAK MY ART (11) gained the perfect trip behind the leader when she won her heat and it is a different scenario here but she should be finishing off strongly. FLYING SPARKS (9) went very well at his latest second and is worth thought along with WHISKEYDRINKINGBILL (12), which followed a good trial performance with a brave first up third.

BACK: TOO THE MAX (5) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: TOO THE MAX (5), BREATHE EASY (2), BREAK MY ART (11), WHISKEYDRINKINGBILL (12)

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: LEWIELEWIS (11) sustained a strong run to win impressively at Horsham then made up a lot of ground at his latest second in the Blue Pearl Classic. He is working into his peak and looms as one of the leading chances again. MONSIEUR FLAMEL (9) put together successive victories in December and will appreciate a drop back in class from his recent performances so he gets his chance to return to some form. VILLAGE VOICE (7) is terribly drawn but is nearing a win against this class having been placed at her past five attempts. She did well to make ground after sustaining a flat tyre at her latest third. SPOOK CROCKER (5) defeated easier opposition but dominated his rivals after leading throughout at Mount Gambier so he must be considered as a winning chance again.

BACK: LEWIELEWIS (11) – 2 units win

SELECTIONS: LEWIELEWIS (11), MONSIEUR FLAMEL (9), VILLAGE VOICE (7), SPOOK CROCKER (5)

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: JILLIBY WORPA (1) is resuming since a sixth behind Loucasso in the APG Graduate. He is dropping back from a $150,000 event into this Maiden affair and he finished fourth in a strong trial at Terang on Tuesday night so he must be considered. JILLIBY UTAH (10) is first up since November but he showed enough promise during his latest preparation to be competitive at this level. KEAYANG HUNGRY (8) is a first starter for trainer Matthew Horsnell, which finished second behind Spook Crocker (won since) at a recent Mount Gambier trial performance. He is awkwardly drawn but must be kept safe. WEERROOK WILSON (3) and FIRESIDE (9) are both minor place hopes.

BACK: JILLIBY WORPA (1) – 1 unit (win)

SELECTIONS: JILLIBY WORPA (1), JILLIBY UTAH (10), KEAYANG HUNGRY (8), FIRESIDE (9)

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: WRITTEN IN SILK (9) has been runner up at her past two attempts against strong opposition and should be very competitive here. She sustained a long run when a brave second behind Lambro Mach at Geelong last outing. HAPPENSTOBABEACHBOY (4) settled in a rearward position from a wide draw and finished off well but without threatening when fifth at Bendigo on Wednesday. He put together successive victories in December and is not without a chance under these conditions. MISTER FONZI (6) produced a big finish out wide on the track when he scored at Maryborough. He has returned from a spell in top form and is one of the leading chances again. THE NAKED ART (3) possesses early speed and is drawn to be prominent throughout.

BACK: WRITTEN IN SILK (9) – 1 unit (win)

SELECTIONS: WRITTEN IN SILK (9), HAPPENSTBABEACHBOY (4), MISTER FONZI (6), THE NAKED ART (3)

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: IAMAWINGATE (6) performs best when he can lead out then take cover. He finished a close second from behind the leader at Geelong three starts ago and wasn’t too far away from the same position at Hamilton last time out so he warrants consideration. PRESIDENTIALCHANGE (9) was confidently supported at Mount Gamber last week and was able to gain the prize after moving around the field to park without cover mid-race. This race appears to be no harder and he must be respected. ELLI JOH (7) has won two races at Mount Gambier recently and finished off best from midfield when successful last outing. She will need luck from the wide draw but is racing too well to dismiss. THE DEMOCRAT (4) trailed the leader but broke stride when switching back into the sprint lane when fifth at Charlton last week. He was a winner at Charlton in December and strikes a suitable assignment now.

SELECTIONS: IAMAWINGATE (6), PRESIDENTIALCHANGE (9), ELLI JOH (7), THE DEMOCRAT (4)

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: PRINCESS ARNA (3) is a fast beginner and is likely to be in front for a long way under these conditions. She attempted to lead throughout when second behind Taste It at Kilmore and Taste It won again since at Bendigo so the form reference is strong. WINGATE GUY (10) was checked coming up to the bell lap and lost approximately twenty metres so he had little luck when fourth (17m) at Shepparton. He was able to grind out a victory at Hamilton prior and should prove hard to beat again. STAR RULER (9) has been placed in four of his past five starts and is worth an investment but he does tend to perform best when he is able to find the lead. QUICK DECISION (2) and MUSELET (8) are both capable of showing up without surprising.

SELECTIONS: PRINCESS ARNA (3), WINGATE GUY (10), STAR RULER (9), MUSELET (8)

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: DALLAS MIKI (5) was driven aggressively by James Herbertson and ran to the lead shortly after the start when he completely dominated his rivals to win a heat of this series. He is backing up quickly from his effort at Mildura on Friday night but he is sure to make his presence felt. LOMBOK (9) settled in the second half of the field and finished off solidly for second in her heat performance. Her overall form is sound and she should be working home nicely again. WHERE IS WOODY (3) gained a nice trip and finished off best to down DALLAS MIKI (5) at their latest meeting. His form prior was against much stronger opposition and being a heat winner of this series, he appears to be well placed again. TORQUE POWER (8) continues to race consistently against this class and is capable of running into a place.

BACK: DALLAS MIKI (5) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: DALLAS MIKI (5), LOMBOK (9), WHERE IS WOODY (3), TORQUE POWER (8)

Race 8:

OVERVIEW: The back markers KEAYANG GYPSY (7) and CRUSHER CLYDE (8) are clearly the class runners of the field and are capable of fighting out the finish, despite the large handicap of 40m. KEAYANG GYPSY (7) has been racing at a high level and boasts a strong standing start record so she gets the nod. CRUSHER CLYDE (8) endured a tough run and was impressive in winning at his Australian debut. He backed up with a close second at a Terang trial effort on Tuesday night and appears to have a promising future.  JAKARTA (4) was placed in the Horsham Cup three starts ago and battled on well after racing without cover at his latest fourth. He is a good beginner and is worth a place ticket. HAPPY ESCAPE (2), LEANNE LEEANN (5) and SONARMI JOH (6) are worth thought in multiple combinations.

SELECTIONS: KEAYANG GYPSY (7), CRUSHER CLYDE (8), JAKARTA (4), LEANNE LEEANN (5)
