Form Analysis by Craig Rail
R1: 6.14pm
Selections:
8 - Lombok
2 – Our Master Play
10 – Foxy Two Gloves
12 – Good Boots Bindi
LOMBOK (8) boasts a strong record at Mildura and will appreciate a significant drop back in class from her fifth (2.5m) behind Madigan in the Echuca Cup. There are several fast beginners drawn on the front line and a genuine early tempo will enhance her chances.
BACK: 1 Lombok 2 Units (win)
Overview:
OUR MASTER PLAY (2) is rising in class but is perfectly drawn to suit his racing pattern. HOOKLINEANDSINKER (3) and ALWAYS ON SAFARI (4) both are fast beginners and have been in winning form. RONZEL RAFA (7) is awkwardly drawn on the inside of the second line but was impressive at his latest all of the way victory. FOXY TWO GLOVES (10) and GOOD BOOTS BINDI (12) both appear to be well graded so it is a good race to start to the night.
R2: 6.48pm
Selections:
8 – Ronzel Micky
9 – Escobar
6 – Cheers Poverty
3 - Watchtheclock
Overview:
RONZEL MICKY (8) had no luck from the inside of the second line at her latest appearance. She had been placed in 8 of her 9 starts (5 wins) prior and she possesses the speed to figure in the finish. ESCOBAR NZ (9) overcame a tough trip to win two starts ago then was placed in a slick mile rate of 1.56.7 last time out. He has struck peak form and is versatile. There are four fast beginners drawn on the front line with those being ROCKING WROXTON (1), IM ALRIGHT JACK (2), WATCHTHECLOCK (3) and CHEERS POVERTY (6) so there should be a genuine tempo early.
R3: 7.13pm
Selections:
1 – Brave Art
2 – Royal Saxon
9 – She’s Poppy
8 – Rooster Phillips
BRAVE ART (1) won impressively at his only Mildura start previously and will appreciate a drop back in class for this assignment so he should be prominent throughout.
BACK: 1 Brave Art 2 units (win)
Overview:
ROYAL SAXON (2) is working into some form and finished fast out wide on the track at his latest eye-catching second. SHES POPPY (9) faces a negative swing in the barrier draw but drops back in grade and ROOSTER PHILLIPS (8) has ability when he puts it altogether. CRUZ WITH ROME (5) is a value hope, particularly if he can find the lead.
R4: 7.40pm
Selections:
3 – Robert Crocka
7 – Love To Deal
1 – Daysie Brown
2 - Cornelia
Overview:
With the exception of DAYSIE BROWN (1), trainer Andrew Vozlic trains all of the runners drawn on the front line. ROBERT CROCKA (3) possesses the most gate speed and he boasts the strongest form line but he can be vulnerable at the end of 2190m. LOVE TO DEAL (7) is awkwardly drawn on the inside of the second line but she had little luck when a close up fourth against stronger grade at Echuca last outing. DAYSIE BROWN (1) tends to perform best when she is on pace and following the markers so she is ideally drawn to suit her racing pattern. CORNELIA (2) and APOLOGY ACCEPTED (6) are performing well enough to feature prominently in an open race.
R5 – 8.12pm
Selections:
5 – Punto Caliente
4 - Grenade
6 – Keayang Crippa
9 – Sunshine Warrior
Overview:
PUNTO CALIENTE (5) finished well when a close second behind SUNSHINE WARRIOR (9) then was very wide on the home turn and made ground at his latest fourth. He should run his usual honest race against this class. GRENADE (4) is down on form but he was solidly supported at his latest attempt and he is a chance of finding his favourite position of being the pacemaker so an improved effort is anticipated. KEAYANG CRIPPA (6) had no luck from the same draw at his latest attempt and SUNSHINE WARRIOR (9) led throughout at a Mildura victory on December 26. The three South Australian visitors WHITE STAR VILLAGE (3), RONZEL SONNY (7) and CLARENDEN VICTORY (8) all must be kept safe.
R6 – 8.44pm
Selections:
8 – Modern Ginger
2 – Carlisle Cruiser
4 – Caulonia Terror
3 - Cotchinellie
MODERN GINGER (8) has been racing competitively against the genuine open class at Mildura and appears to be very well placed. He used a lot of energy to find the front early before taking cover and put in a big performance for third behind Tough Aint Enough in fast time last week so he gets his chance to break through for an overdue victory.
BACK: 8 Modern Ginger – 3 Units (win)
Overview:
AMERICAN BOXER (1), CARLISLE CRUISER (2) and COTCHINELLIE (3) are all likely to show early pace. AMERICAN BOXER (1) and COTCHINELLIE (3) are both rising in class and CARLISLE CRUISER (2) performs best when in front so he will prove strong opposition to MODERN GINGER (8) if he is able to find the top. CAULONIA TERROR (4) is capable of sprinting to the line quickly with the right trail forward and rates as a knockout chance.
R7 – 9.11pm
SELECTIONS:
6 – The Ninja
7 - Brieisbetter
2 – Hold On Forever
4 Lively Joe
THE NINJA (6) has been runner up twice recently at Mildura including an effort behind Brave Art in a slick mile rate of 1.57.3, which is a time that would be winning this race so he appears very well placed.
BACK: 6 The Ninja 3 units (win)
Overview:
BRIEISBETTER (7) is a maiden from 34 attempts but she has been placed in three of her past four starts and is drawn to gain an economical run. HOLD ON FOREVER (2) ran a better race last time and is nicely drawn. LIVELY JOE (4) makes his debut for trainer Kate Attard and has been placed five times in his career so he might improve on his recent performances.
