Form Analysis by Ryan Phelan
Race 1:
SELECTIONS: MAXBECA (1), SPUN SILVER (2), MY LADY SARAH (8), MUSSEL SHOALS (4)
OVERVIEW: MAXBECA (1) will be at the mercy of the map with plenty of speed drawn to his outside, but if he can land close enough in running, he’s right in this. He comes out of stronger Melton company where he’s been holding his own, and this grade suits with even luck. SPUN SILVER (2) has terrific gate speed and can cross to the pegs, and she’s enjoying career-best form this season. MY LADY SARAH (8) couldn’t have been more impressive first-up for the new stable, but the draw makes things tricky. MUSSEL SHOALS (4) is another quick beginner who is racing well, though the map is awkward.
Race 2:
SELECTIONS: I OF THE HURRIKANE (9), INSIDE LEG (10), FLOJOS BEST (12), ANAKIN (7)
OVERVIEW: I OF THE HURRIKANE (9) has had two runs for the new stable and has shown immediate improvement, including a last start win when sitting parked and proving too strong. She has to overcome the backrow draw over the short trip, but with the right tempo she’ll be charging late. INSIDE LEG (10) has been excellent his past couple, consistently finding the line with strong sectionals. FLOJOS BEST (12) had her chance in the Vicbred Series and has since put together three solid runs. ANAKIN (7) is often not far away and gets a top driver, but the draw and map make it a challenge.
BACK: I OF THE HURRIKANE (9) – 2 units (win)
Race 3:
SELECTIONS: MONTANA CHEVELLE (9), WITH APLOMB (5), WAIKARE ADRIENNA (11), SETTLE THE BILL (13)
OVERVIEW: MONTANA CHEVELLE (9) has been racing consistently and gets the James Herbertson factor from a trailing draw. She follows out a quick beginner and should be in striking distance. WITH APLOMB (5) is a redrawn runner after getting it wrong in the Young Guns series, but that run was enormous, making significant ground and finding the line strongly. His form for the new stable has been solid. WAIKARE ADRIENNA (11) broke last start but her prior win at this track was very good. SETTLE THE BILL (13) has a strong record here and when she brings her manners she’s often in the finish.
BACK: MONTANA CHEVELLE (9) – 2 units (win)
Race 4:
SELECTIONS: INTERPRETATION (11), ATOMIC GLORY (5), FLIP A COIN (12), FEEL THE KNIGHT (9)
OVERVIEW: INTERPRETATION (11) was brave two starts back when nothing went right, and she was rewarded with victory in the Young Guns series at Melton last time. She must overcome a tough draw over the short trip but is clearly racing well. ATOMIC GLORY (5) is a fast beginner who needs to lift on recent efforts, though his earlier form was sound. FLIP A COIN (12) galloped away last time and faces a tough task from the draw but had been racing well prior. FEEL THE KNIGHT (9) gets the trailing draw and won’t be far away.
Race 5:
SELECTIONS: BROADWAY OBSESSION (10), TOTALLY STUNNING (9), ELCHEAPO CLAIRE (2), BINNALONG MATE (4)
OVERVIEW: BROADWAY OBSESSION (10) is a new season 3YO taking on older horses, but his three runs as a 2YO were very strong against handy types. He’ll need the right tempo to work into the race, but the talent is there. TOTALLY STUNNING (9) owns a strong SP profile and has been racing consistently without winning, and the soft trailing draw helps. ELCHEAPO CLAIRE (2) is still a maiden but is close to a win based on recent efforts. BINNALONG MATE (4) won last start in moderate time but maps reasonably.
BACK: BROADWAY OBSESSION (10) – 2 units (win)
Race 6:
SELECTIONS: ALTA BAYAMO (2), CELESTIAL ZODIAC (9), NUGGET ROGERS (8), CHIRRIPO (3)
OVERVIEW: ALTA BAYAMO (2) is a quick beginner who can punch through and find the pegs. He’s struck up a strong association with James Herbertson and should give a sight. CELESTIAL ZODIAC (9) is a model of consistency and is a winner at this track from his only attempt. NUGGET ROGERS (8) was well backed last start and probably didn’t quite live up to it, but his ability warrants another chance. CHIRRIPO (3) was a good winner here two runs back and maps favourably again.
Race 7:
SELECTIONS: GUNSEN ROSIE (3), MONTANA MUSCLE (4), MASSIF CENTRAL (2), CMON CARL LEE (1)
OVERVIEW: A very tricky race. GUNSEN ROSIE (3) has shown improvement for the new stable and went close last start under similar conditions. MONTANA MUSCLE (4) is a veteran who doesn’t win often but finds a winnable race. MASSIF CENTRAL (2) needs to lift on recent runs, but his best form keeps him in the mix. CMON CARL LEE (1) hasn’t won for a long time, though the soft draw helps.
Race 8:
SELECTIONS: TOORAM MAGIC (5), TRIPLE ROCK SAINT (7), KIA ORA BEAUTY (8), CLYMENUS (6)
OVERVIEW: TOORAM MAGIC (5) finished eighth last start at Melton, but the run was much better than it looks, working hard and sticking on well. His earlier form was solid, and he has enough gate speed to take up a good position over the short trip. TRIPLE ROCK SAINT (7) has found form over the past month, including a strong all-the-way win at Melton two starts back. KIA ORA BEAUTY (8) is down on form but finds a suitable race at a track she likes. CLYMENUS (6) drops back in grade but needs the tempo to suit.
BACK: TOORAM MAGIC (5) – 2 units (win)
Race 9:
SELECTIONS: LE GASTON (6), MASON JOLIE (8), TRYX VIXEN (5) PIASTRI (4)
OVERVIEW: LE GASTON (6) has finished runner-up in both career starts and finds his most suitable assignment here. He has the leading stable and driver combination and maps better than his main danger MASON JOLIE (8), who’s shown ability before getting things wrong last start. TRYX VIXEN (5) has been racing up in grade recently and her prior form was sound. PIASTRI (4) hasn’t been far away in three career runs and maps well.
BACK: LE GASTON (6) – 2 units (win)
Race 10:
SELECTIONS: SAMMY HALLER (2), WHAT A SERVE (3), ALDEBARAN ZANE (8) SAYAPRAYERFORME (7)
OVERVIEW: SAMMY HALLER (2) was favourite last start but was taken out of the race. His prior form suggested a win wasn’t far away, so with better luck he can go close. WHAT A SERVE (3) has good gate speed and is fitter now third-up in a suitable race. ALDEBARAN ZANE (8) just missed last time in his first run for the new stable and has strong claims again. SAYAPRAYERFORME (7) will improve on his latest run but must overcome a tricky draw.
