Form Analysis by Craig Rail

Race 1:
OVERVIEW: YNOBE DAKOTA (1) has only been placed once in six starts for the season but she produced a really good effort when second behind the Emma Stewart prepared Mount Barker Boy at the Melton trials last week, where she finished off nicely from midfield in fast final sectionals. It is an evenly balanced field so she is worth a ticket each way. JAMES GARNER (11) will appreciate a drop back in class for this assignment and is versatile enough to overcome the poor draw. He was beaten in very fast time at Charlton last outing after a close second behind Shotinthedark at Birchip. WAZOWSKI (3) worked hard to find the lead when unplaced at Boort last outing. She is usually competitive against this class and is worth another chance. OPTIMAL (10) was doing his best work at the end when second behind Shaq at Maryborough last week and is not without a chance. There are several other winning chances including VILLAGE VOICE (4), SHE WILL WANTANO (5) and HUXHAM CHUBB (6).
BACK: YNOBE DAKOTA (1) – 1.5 units (each way)
SELECTIONS: YNOBE DAKOTA (1), JAMES GARNER (11), WAZOWSKI (3), OPTIMAL (10)
Race 2:
OVERVIEW: FLOATING MOUNTAIN (11) commences from a tough mark but he did win at Ararat from the handicap of 30m two starts ago and he will find this race to be much easier than his latest eighth in the Geelong Cup. BOUTIKA (8) is resuming since October but she was racing well against stronger opposition last season so she should be competitive if she is somewhere near her peak. RIDETHELIGHTNING (7) is resuming since being unplaced in a heat of the Super Series at Kilmore in November but he will be fitter after two recent trial performances. He is better than his form reads and cannot be left out of calculations. KAMARAN (5) has ability but has made a few errors recently. He can show up if he delivers a fool proof display. LADY SUSPICIOUS (9) and ALDEBARAN ANTON (10) both performed well at Mount Gambier last week and are worth thought in another even race.
SELECTIONS: FLOATING MOUNTAIN (11), BOUTIKA (8), RIDETHELIGHTNING (7), KAMARAN (5)
Race 3:
OVERVIEW: BLACK OPAL JACK (9) was resuming since an Ararat victory in November when he ran home strongly from midfield to finish second behind Colosimo at Maryborough. He should be sharper from that performance and strikes a very suitable line up now. STEAM MACHINE (10) is a strong type that performed well at his two starts during the Mount Gambier Cup Carnival. He was runner up in the Southern Cross Final at Globe Derby during his last preparation so he demands respect. JILLIBY UTAH (1) has had a few chances of late but he strikes his best draw for a long time and leading reinsman James Herbertson takes the drive so an improved effort would not surprise. SHUDABOUGHTABOAT (8) met a strong field and struck trouble with 200m remaining when unplaced at Bendigo last week. He led throughout to win at Kilmore prior and he has a nice trailing draw behind JILLIBY UTAH (1) so he is worth another chance.
BACK: BLACK OPAL JACK (9) – 2 units (win)
SELECTIONS: BLACK OPAL JACK (9), STEAM MACHINE (10), JILLIBY UTAH (1), SHUDABOUGHTABOAT (8)
Race 4:
OVERVIEW: KING KASEY (9) is racing outside of his class range but he is a smart 3yo pacer that has won three of his six starts to date and he recorded fast time at a runaway trial success at Maryborough on Wednesday so he must be respected. OUR ULTIMATE GRACY (7) led throughout at her first two victories back from a long spell then attempted to lead throughout when seventh (4.5m) in a strong race at Melton on March 07. This is a more suitable assignment and she warrants respect. NOSWEETSFORYOU (6) is a strong mare that has been racing at Metropolitan level and will appreciate a drop back in class for this assignment. She was able to outstay her rivals at a Wedderburn victory in January and should make her presence felt under these conditions. MANINKY MOONSHINE (1) is drawn to receive every chance and has claims along with SPORTSBOU (4), KEAYANG PAYTON (5) and THE NAKED ART (8).
BACK: KING KASEY (9) – 1 unit (win)
SELECTIONS: KING KASEY (9), OUR ULTIMATE GRACY (7), NOSWEETSFORYOU (6), MANINKY MOONSHINE (1)
Race 5:
OVERVIEW: OUTBACK QUEENIE (1) has been runner up at her past three starts and is ready to break through for a win. She possesses early speed and she has performed extremely well despite a run of second row barrier draws in recent times. She sustained a long run when second behind Muselet at Charlton last time out. BETTORPATCHMEUP (8) finished off boldly when an eye-catching third behind Ned’s Beach at Ararat last outing. He has the perfect trailing draw behind OUTBACK QUEENIE (1) so he must be respected. BLACKMIRRA (9) is resuming since January but she was runner up at a Bacchus Marsh trial performance on Saturday and she was competing against much stronger opposition when she was last in work. FAMOUS LABEL (3) possesses early speed and is worth thought along with LINE UP JACQUIE (5).
SELECTIONS: OUTBACK QUEENIE (1), BETTORPATCHMEUP (8), BLACKMIRRA (9), LINE UP JACQUIE (5)
Race 6:
OVERVIEW: STELLAR QUEEN (1) gained a nice trail and tried hard when a close up third behind The Accidental One at Echuca last outing. She is ideally drawn against a suitable line up and is worth thought. TELL A TALL STORY (8) will be looking for STELLAR QUEEN (1) to hold a forward position at the start and is a winning chance if she does. He attempted to lead throughout when third at Boort then followed with a fourth behind Bettorsweetvictory in a slick mile of 1.55.1 at Charlton last outing. ITTAKESLUV (9) scored at Mount Gambier two starts ago then copped plenty of pressure in the leading role and had excuses at her latest eighth. She is racing well enough to figure in the finish against this class. TYABB WONDER (5) has only beaten one horse to the line at her past three attempts but she has early speed and this is a significant drop back in class so she is a possible improver.
SELECTIONS: STELLAR QUEEN (1), TELL A TALL STORY (8), ITTAKESLUV (9), TYABB WONDER (5)
Race 7:
OVERVIEW: SOHO TIGER LILY (7) is a first starter for trainer Michael Stanley, which produced a game performance when second behind the smart pacer Rocknroll Willow at a Maryborough trial effort last week. She obviously has ability and should give this a shake. TOPSIE BEWARE (5) is a nicely bred filly for trainer Wayne Ronan, which has shown promise at the trials with a win and a fourth to her credit. She strikes a suitable field first up and should go well. FLY AHEAD (1) performed consistently in four starts during his first campaign of racing. He is drawn to receive an economical trip and cannot be left out of calculations. MISSMALACHITE (4) is a maiden from 37 starts but she has been placed four times for the season and she tried hard when second behind Major Roy in a slick mile rate of 1.56.3 last outing so she is not without a chance.
SELECTIONS: SOHO TIGER LILY (7), TOPSIE BEWARE (5), FLY AHEAD (1), MISSMALACHITE (4)
Race 8:
OVERVIEW: KEAYANG ALABAMA (8) has the perfect trailing draw behind the likely leader ROMAN CHARLIE (1) and gets his chance to break through for a win. He finished second behind McBart (won Menangle since) then endured a tough run when second behind Frosty Drop at Kilmore last outing. ROMAN CHARLIE (1) is a tough type and has performed extremely well after parking without cover at his past two attempts. He continues to improve with the benefit of experience and deserves to break through for a win. LUVN MARY (3) ran a sharper race when second behind Cash King at Birchip last outing. She possesses the early speed to gain a prominent position and is worth a place ticket. ALWAYS BE TECHY (6) and MAJESTIC CHEDDAR (7) are both racing well enough to be considered in multiple combinations.
SELECTIONS: KEAYANG ALABAMA (8), ROMAN CHARLIE (1), LUVN MARY (3), ALWAYS BE TECHY (6)
