Form Analysis by Bronte Nieuwenburg

Race 1:
OVERVIEW: METRO SWISH (3) has the best sectional times. She is working towards a win, placing at her last three starts. She needs to trot throughout to win. CHANTILLY LASS (6) has only had three starts but galloped in two. She did get it right and trot throughout last start and was only beaten 1.2m at Bendigo when flying home late. She needs to trot but has ability. BEAU TRUSCOTT (5) is hard to place based on exposed form as he’s lightly raced with poor trotting manners. He has trialled okay recently. KYVALLEY JOKER (8) is, on times, the best swooper in this field, but he’s galloped at almost every start in his career. He is well bred and is first up for a new trainer here.
BACK: METRO SWISH (3) – 2 units (win)
SELECTIONS: METRO SWISH (3), CHANTILLY LASS (6), BEAU TRUSCOTT (5), KYVALLEY JOKER (8)
Race 2:
OVERVIEW: This is the first two-year-old race of the season in Victoria, so we are relying on trial form. LA CANTATRICE (1) is a Poster Boy-sired filly. She won a recent trial at Melton when she flashed home late to win, with a final quarter of 28.7. She is well placed from barrier one. CRIPPA (6) is a stunning Poster Boy-sired colt. He was too good for his rivals, winning a trial at Bendigo by over 30 metres. He ran a last quarter of 29.2 there but looked like he would have gone faster if he had another horse racing him; he was just too far in front. THEMIDNIGHTEXPRESS (2) is a Ride High-sired colt for Damien Burns, who has a brilliant record with early two-year-olds. He’s won two Maryborough trials and will be ready to go here. ALWAYSTHE PRINCESS (8) is the second of the Damien Burns-prepared runners in this field, a filly sired by Always B Miki. She finished third in both her recent trials.
BACK: LA CANTATRICE (1) – 2 units (win)
SELECTIONS: LA CANTATRICE (1), CRIPPA (6), THEMIDNIGHTEXPRESS (2), ALWAYSTHE PRINCESS (8)
Race 3:
OVERVIEW: In an even contest, SALSBOY (7) is the reliable, experienced 13-year-old in this field. He does have good gate speed, but he is also a good swooper. He has a tricky barrier, but he will be flashing home if he gets a good run. BETTORSWEETVICTORY (5)’s numerical form doesn’t look great, but her recent times have been okay. She has James Herbertson taking the reins here. She does have gate speed and a nice turn of foot. TEX GOES BANG (3) can make his own luck, and he has a nice barrier here over his main rivals to use to his advantage. CAMNAT (8) has been through four trainers since October. He does have the best sectional times and is performing okay; it’s just a bit tricky to figure out where he is at.
SELECTIONS: SALSBOY (7), BETTORSWEETVICTORY (5), TEX GOES BANG (3), CAMNAT (8)
Race 4:
OVERVIEW: BREATHE EASY (9) is hard to miss, the flashy chestnut. He has won his last two and has the winning confidence. He follows out the in-form Freak Out (2), who has nice gate speed, so he will get into a good position easily and will be the one flashing home late. STAR RULER (3) has gate speed and could get into a handy position early. He has been hitting the line well recently, but he’s just been too far back. He will appreciate being closer to the front of the field. LENARD ESS (10) has a tricky barrier here, but he’s the old reliable runner for top trainer Jess Tubbs. He’s been a bit unlucky recently. If he gets a clear run here, he’s a threat. CRESCO THREEPEAT (8) will be on the fence here and, with luck, will be flashing home late.
BACK: BREATHE EASY (9) – 2 units (win)
SELECTIONS: BREATHE EASY (9), STAR RULER (3), LENARD ESS (10). CRESCO THREEPEAT (8)
Race 5:
OVERVIEW: NIGHT FLIGHT (7) is working towards a well-deserved win. He hit the line well last start when third at Ballarat. Two starts prior, he also got home well at Stawell. He hasn’t been lucky, but his sectional times are the best in this field. He will need to find luck from the barrier, but he is ready to win. CHARLIE WALKER (9) was a winner last start when finding the front. His best asset is his early speed, which he can’t use here from the back row. He’s been leading at his last five starts and may appreciate the map change here. VAN DOREN (8) is a smart trotter but will be relying on luck on the fence here. He is racing well and will be the one to watch late if he gets a clear run. ATEGO DAWN (2) is first up here for new trainer Anthony Spiteri. It had previously been in the same stable for its whole career. It may appreciate the change in scenery and has a forward barrier here.
SELECTIONS: NIGHT FLIGHT (7), CHARLIE WALKER (9), VAN DOREN (8), ATEGO DAWN (2)
Race 6:
OVERVIEW: WHATS THE TEA (10) is an experienced trotter at this grade who always tries his best and races well for James Herbertson. He has the best sectional times in this event but will need luck from the awkward barrier. LOUIEVILLE LASS (3) has placed in four of her last five starts. She’s working towards a win and finds a suitable barrier to get into a forward position here. MONTANA MUSCLE (1) has been racing okay and finds a suitable race here to take advantage of barrier one. MACHO MAORI (8) had to do it tough last start but still battled on okay. He will need luck from the barrier, but he could bob up here.
SELECTIONS: WHATS THE TEA (10), LOUIEVILLE LASS (3), MONTANA MUSCLE (1), MACHO MAORI (8)
Race 7:
OVERVIEW: MAGIC LAW (2) has good gate speed to use to her advantage and has found a good race here. She’s in career-best form, winning two of her last three. A trotting mare in form is always great to follow. BEAUTIFUL SUNRISE (3) lacks high gate speed but will likely be able to slot into a good position. If she finds luck, she will be flashing home late. HOLD THE MAGIC (11) has the best sectional times but an awkward barrier. AI SEDHAI (5) has been out of the winners’ circle for some time, but he hasn’t been racing poorly. He will need luck, but he’s performing okay.
BACK: MAGIC LAW (2) – 2 units (win)
SELECTIONS: MAGIC LAW (2), BEAUTIFUL SUNRISE (3), HOLD THE MAGIC (11), AI SEDHAI (5)
Race 8:
OVERVIEW: OFF YOUR FACESKI (8) is in flying form, winning his last five starts. This is going to be his toughest ask recently as he has an awkward barrier. If he can find some luck, he’s the one to beat. DELS DESTINY (5) has been a bit unlucky in some of his recent starts. His numerical form may not look as good as Off Your Faceski’s, but he’s been racing well and looks ready to get back into the winners’ circle. BLACK AND GOLD (4) is the experienced nine-year-old mare looking for her 27th career win. She is back racing in a suitable class for her and can make her own luck. TE AMO (1) is first up this year but will be able to obtain a forward position from barrier one without having to work too hard.
BACK: OFF YOUR FACESKI (8) – 2 units (win)
SELECTIONS: OFF YOUR FACESKI (8), DELS DESTINY (5), BLACK AND GOLD (4), TE AMO (1)
