Form Analysis by Tim O'Connor

Race 1:
OVERVIEW: Few winning chances in the opening event, where KYVALLEY JETSTREAM (7) might be the best of them despite a tricky draw. He has been in great form without prevailing in recent weeks, with his last-start effort a brave death seat second to The Dark Thunder, who has since come out and won the Boort Trotters Cup. Three runs ago at Kilmore, he was a very gallant second to Quirky Character and that horse won a strong Saturday night event last weekend. He has the right form. THE SKY IS THE LIMIT (8) ran a super race for second last weekend behind Sky Lindy at Melton and the heat run prior was full of merit despite a wide trip, DOSSIER (11) sat parked and dropped out late last weekend but his prior form is very solid, while SPIRITED LASS (12) makes way too many mistakes to trust, but her best is very good and she wouldn’t surprise one bit if on her best behaviour.
BACK: KYVALLEY JETSTREAM (7) – 1 unit (win)
SELECTIONS: KYVALLEY JETSTREAM (7), THE SKY IS THE LIMIT (8), DOSSIER (11), SPIRITED LASS (12)
Race 2:
OVERVIEW: Very tough 0-45 race where I’ll take a chance on the Sam Barker-trained BOND GIRL (3). I loved her effort two runs back at Cranbourne when she was dragged to last and charged home down the middle of the track to grab second. She then had excuses last time when distanced at Ballarat and draws fairly well here off the front line. Her win at Kilmore in December was full of merit and a similar performance might be good enough. NORMANS GIRL (7) had been knocking on the door for victory and finally broke through last time when sprint-laning too quickly at Kilmore. She can go on and make it back-to-back wins despite the bad gate. TASTE IT (11) has been poor her last couple but was showing good signs prior, while BONA KHAN (10) can figure if the tempo is on. The hopes don’t end there, however…
BACK: BOND GIRL (3) – 1 unit (win)
SELECTIONS: BOND GIRL (3), NORMANS GIRL (7), TASTE IT (11), BONA KHAN (10)
Race 3:
OVERVIEW: HUGO ROCKS (7) is a 10-year-old veteran who hasn’t been winning out of turn lately, but has been very competitive in stronger events than the one he finds himself in here. He had no luck last time out at Melton, but his prior efforts had him close-up behind smart rivals such as Twisting By, Shadow Celt and Odin, which reads really well for a race like this. HIGHLANDHARTBREAKA (3) is a quirky customer who has good ability and did win well when leading at Melton in a slick 55.8 last half in late January. He’s a good chance, but might not be able to find the front here as BULLETPROOF KID (2) probably has the speed to lead like he did when a dominant winner at Newcastle last Friday night. GALAXY LASS (6) is another of the gate runners off the front line and she could give a cheeky sight should she cross at the start.
BACK: HUGO ROCKS (7) – 1.5 units (each-way)
SELECTIONS: HUGO ROCKS (7), HIGHLANDHARTBREAKA (3), BULLETPROOF KID (2), GALAXY LASS (6)
Race 4:
OVERVIEW: JANIEBQUICK (8) has been ripping home from the back of the field in her past two starts and gets a good chance to break through for David and Brent Murphy. She flashed late to grab third last week at Kilmore behind Outa The Blue and had a chequered path at Ballarat prior to that but did well to get within 5.1m of Super Code. This is a suitable assignment. ARCHAA (1) has good gate speed and might hold the front, which would be a good result for the on-top selection. MIDNIGHT DESIRE (4) was a good second at Ararat last Friday and has been consistent of late, STAR RULER (6) usually burns off the gate and would be a genuine hope if he led, while MUSELET (10) heads the rest in a race plenty can win with the right trip.
BACK: JANIEBQUICK (8) – 1.5 units (each-way)
SELECTIONS: JANIEBQUICK (8), MIDNIGHT DESIRE (4), STAR RULER (6), MUSELET (10)
Race 5:
OVERVIEW: DONMARO (6) is first-up from New Zealand for master trainer Andy Gath and heads here on the back of a whopping 29.5m trial victory over Evileye, who won at Shepparton early this week. He has good gate speed going off his most recent New Zealand performance in October last year and has competed at a strong level in his home country. He might be able to power forward and prove hard to catch, so we will take a chance on him. MADRIGAL (4) finished third in last Friday’s Ararat Pacing Cup and closed off really well from the rear when third to My Little Bo at Melton before that. She’s a leading contender, as is another former Kiwi in TEN DA TOUCH (7), who is lining up for his third Australian start. He was unlucky first-up at Bendigo and then came with a sustained three-wide run to grab third last week behind Edwarde Grange. LA BELLE BIJOUX (9), TARA VICTORY (5), HES ALL TORQUE (8) and SPIRIT OF SAHARA (2) are all winning hopes in a wide-open race.
SELECTIONS: DONMARO (6), TEN DA TOUCH (7), MADRIGAL (4), LA BELLE BIJOUX (9)
Race 6:
OVERVIEW: Another clash with plenty of winning hopes, but we will take a little chance on FINAL PROMISE (5) after two unlucky runs to start the campaign. He was held up three back the pegs first-up at Ballarat and then ran into traffic before galloping at Kilmore latest. He got back down and looked to have plenty left to give over the line despite beating just one rival. HAPPENSTBABEACHBOY (8) closed off really well for second behind Out To Stay at Hamilton last week and gets the services of James Herbertson again here, DAVOLAS LEGACY (9) is running some very honest races of late and will be hitting the line hard, while ILLUMINATE ME (3) is favoured for fourth given she might be able to find the fence and give them something to catch.
SELECTIONS: FINAL PROMISE (5), HAPPENSTBABEACHBOY (8), DAVOLAS LEGACY (9), ILLUMINATE ME (3)
Race 7:
OVERVIEW: Early-season two-year-old events are always intriguing, and this is no different. We have the eight runners, where half come through the first juvenile event of the season at Maryborough last week and another four make their debuts here. ROCKLEIGHS LEGACY (8) drew badly, went back to last and stormed home in eye-catching style in that race at Maryborough, clocking clearly the best final two quarters of the race while finishing fourth. It was a great run and I’ll lean her way from the trio of Geoff Webster-trained runners. JACWILL KID (1) is another of the Webster horses. He has performed impressively at the trials, gets the gun draw for driver Chris Alford and looks a great chance. CRIPPA (5) was well backed and very brave when doing work early and sitting parked at Maryborough. He did a super job to run second - only beaten 2.1m - and can certainly win. LA CANTATRICE (2) had a nice run in behind leader and winner Themidnightexpress in that same race and might be next best in a race where we will learn plenty.
BACK: ROCKLEIGHS LEGACY (8) – 1 unit (each-way)
SELECTIONS: ROCKLEIGHS LEGACY (8), JACWILL KID (1), CRIPPA (5), LA CANTATRICE (2)
