Redcliffe, Wednesday 7 January

RACE 1

ARKUNA (3) scored a good win two starts ago when working to the breeze and proving too good for Sargeant. She seemingly loves racing over the 2040 and has a good front line draw in this race.

ROSIE POLLEN (8) has been racing in good form having run two good seconds recently at this track when closing from back in the field. She will be hoping for a genuine early tempo and she can be running into the finish late.

B MAC C (2) appears on paper to get a comfortable enough lead in this race Mach Brilliance did kick up hard early last start before eventually handing over but finished last there so is likely to adopt more conservative tactics this time.

TAYLORS FOUR (4) impressed last start scoring a big win at this track and distance. When she is able to lead and get things on her terms she is usually a very hard horse to run down.

SELECTIONS: ARKUNA (3), ROSIE POLLEN (8), B MAC C (2), TAYLORS FOUR (4)

SUGGESTED BET:  ROSIE POLLEN (8) to win.

RACE 2

BLACKJACK CRIPPA (5) was a heavily supported favourite two starts ago and could only manage fourth when not able to lead in that race but wasn’t beaten far. He backed up his effort two back last start when breezing and finishing a close up second. He should be able to find a spot up on speed again and will be hard to hold out.

COMPETE (1) has been badly out of form for quite some time and on his recent efforts he is hard to have in this race despite the good draw. He did lead and run a competitive race last time he did lead at this track and trip though and he may run a more competitive race again under those circumstances.

KARINYA GILL (4) has been good in two QLD starts so far. He wasn’t suited last start getting back and running on in a very slowly run race. Over the mile it’s likely there should be a more genuine tempo this time and that could allow him to be running into the finish.

MY ULTIMATE BUDDHA (2) was taken to the pegs last start after drawing wide in the early stages. He took on some quality company when he was a 3YO and if he is able to recapture some of his better form he would likely be extremely hard to beat in a race of this nature.

SELECTIONS: BLACKJACK CRIPPA (5), COMPETE (1), KARINYA GILL (4), MY ULTIMATE BUDDHA (2)

SUGGESTED BET: BLACKJACK CRIPPA (5) to win.

RACE 3

SARGEANT (6) has run well but come up short a number of times recently when well supported in the market. He went around favourite two starts ago when just not quite able to run down Arkuna at this track over the 2040. He then did a lot of work last start and just faded out of it late.

MULLUM DOC (1) has excellent gate speed and can likely zip across and lead this race in the early stages. He drew wide last start and burned extremely hard to get over to the lead and did well to battle away for third there. If he obtains an easier lead which looks likely he will be hard to run down.

RIGHTYO (3) has been in good form and looks likely to secure a good run close enough to the speed in this race. He will be hoping for a genuine early tempo to allow him to be running on late.

DIEGO DELGADO (7) should get a great run through in the early stages of this race on the back of a horse with very good gate speed. He ran a good race two starts ago and was just run down in the concluding stages by La Sabina who had the perfect run on his back there.

SELECTIONS: SARGEANT (6), MULLUM DOC (1), RIGHTYO (3), DIEGO DELGADO (7)

SUGGESTED BET: DIEGO DELGADO (7) each way.

RACE 4

AMERICAN BOULEVARD (1) lands in QLD and is first up from a spell having trialled just fairly. It has been a few weeks since that trial and she may have derived benefit from the outing there. She has previously shown good gate speed and will likely have options from the good draw.

JUST PINNY (4) was a winner of a restricted wins race last start beating Fifty Each Way after coming from back in the field. He has an awkward draw to navigate in this race and may be sat up and saved for one run at them late.

THE BLACK FOX (8) has been racing fairly and drops a long way back in grade from some of his better efforts. He should secure a good run from the soft trailing draw.

MYSTICALFANTASY (5) launched off the gate last start to lead and was beaten a very long way late when tiring badly. She was sent back to trials and won her recent trial at Redcliffe in moderate time.

SELECTIONS: AMERICAN BOULEVARD (1), JUST PINNY (4), THE BLACK FOX (8), MYSTICALFANTASY (5)

SUGGESTED BET: AMERICAN BOULEVARD (1) to win.

RACE 5

FEELING THE POWER (2) ran an excellent race last start when working hard to lead before taking the trail on Illbewatching. He loomed up strongly at the top of the straight and appeared some chance of running on by the eventual winner but just flattened out on his run and was able to run a clear second.

CRIME TIME (1) doesn’t have much gate speed which often causes him issues when drawing this gate. He should be able to hold a forward position this time and can figure in the placings again having run a second and two thirds his last three starts.

SHADYS DELIGHT (9) ran on strongly into second last start at this track. He has always been quite competitive when able to drop back into this grade and if the speed is on early could be very hard to hold out.

CONNIES SPIRIT (4) has excellent gate speed and lands a front row draw in this race which could make things interesting in the early stages. She ran a good second last start and comes into this race likely nearing peak fitness third up from a spell.

SELECTIONS: FEELING THE POWER (2), CRIME TIME (1), SHADYS DELIGHT (9), CONNIES SPIRIT (4)

SUGGESTED BET: CRIME TIME (1) each way.

RACE 6

HES MY REASON (2) was a huge winner recently at this track and trip when leading all the way. He still looks very well graded and should find the front again and be very hard to run down for his new stable. He looks the winner.

SMARTER THAN YOU (6) has the class in this race and was a good winner two starts ago when scoring well at this track. He secured a soft run last start and ran on well there into the placings. He looks likely to face a tough task in this race drawn widest.

BLING THE NOISE (7) should get a good run through and has shown himself to be a better horse on the pegs when driven quietly. If the gaps appear he should be running on into the placings late.

VINNIE NITRO (8) ran a better race into second last start after obtaining a good run behind Hes Regal. She should get a good run in this race and in a race without a lot of depth should be in the money somewhere.

SELECTIONS: HES MY REASON (2), SMARTER THAN YOU (6), BLING THE NOISE (7), VINNIE NITRO (8)

SUGGESTED BET: HES MY REASON (2) to win.

RACE 7

BELMER BETTY (4) draws the best of the main chances in this race and looks likely to press forward and find a forward position in this race. She ran a good second last start and if she can secure the right run she should be hard to beat.

FIFTY EACH WAY (5) has run second in her last two starts putting in a good run last time out behind Lazena over the 2040. Her start prior she was second to Just Pinny when appearing to have every chance there.

MULLUM JUDITH (6) was a last start winner when scoring at Marburg. Hasn’t been seen since early December which appears a query when you add in a poor draw. Can figure with luck.

THREE UNDER PAR (9) ran a much better race last start when closing into it late having done the work the start prior. Looks to be building towards a win.

SELECTIONS: BELMER BETTY (4), FIFTY EACH WAY (5), MULLUM JUDITH (6), THREE UNDER PAR (9)

SUGGESTED BET: FIFTY EACH WAY (5) to win.

RACE 8

SINKRATE (5) ran well last start after securing a good run at this track and trip and finishing second. He draws wide in this race which appears quite awkward and will need luck at some stage to get into the race

SATURDAY DANCE (7) is having her first up in the state and draws awkwardly inside the back row. Comes into the race third up having run two good placings her last two starts. Should be hard to beat with any luck.

SIX SEVEN (6) draws poorly in this race but does look to have good ability. Has done a few things wrong so far in two starts and a wide draw as a result of the ODM may make things tricky again.

TIGER ATTACK (3) has been competitive in maidens when able to secure the right type of run. She may look to press forward in this race and find the fence and if she did she would likely be competitive.

SELECTIONS: SINKRATE (5), SATURDAY DANCE (7), SIX SEVEN (6), TIGER ATTACK (3)

SUGGESTED BET: SINKRATE (5) to win.

RACE 9

CHERRIES ON TOP (1) was taken back at the start last time and ran on strongly late into fourth. Appears to have a class edge on rivals in this race and draws best. She can look to hold a forward position and should be hard to beat.

FEELIN FORASTAR (7) doesn’t look quite up to the level of the horse she is drawn behind but does look the best of the rest given the good draw. Ran well last start when not having a great deal of luck at this track.

WILDSTAR DIVA (4) secured the ideal run last start and ran a much better race when finishing second. Looks to have drawn quite awkwardly in this race which could make things tricky.

TAKING STOCK (3) comes into this race first up for a new trainer in Matthew Clayton who seems to do quite a good job with his horses. Worth keep safe despite the slightly awkward draw.

SELECTIONS: CHERRIES ON TOP (1), FEELIN FORASTAR (7), WILDSTAR DIVA (4), TAKING STOCK (3)

SUGGESTED BET: CHERRIES ON TOP (1) to win.
