Maryborough, Tuesday 23 December

Form Analysis by Craig Rail

Race 1:

OVERVIEW: IJUSTCANTSEEIT (7) is a very talented filly and appears to be ideally placed against this line up. She chased hard when a big second in a heat of the Super Series four starts ago, followed with a ninth in the Final then qualified for the Breeders Crown Final with a heat fourth. NOSTRA NIPOTINA (1) will also appreciate a drop back in class. She finished fourth in a heat of the Super Series and followed with a seventh in the Final, where she followed inside runs throughout. She will be suited to being drawn on the pole position and looms as one of the leading chances. MINNIE MIA (2) was placed in a heat of the Breeders Crown two starts ago and followed with a seventh in the Final. She should give a forward showing from her good draw. PIPALICIOUS (8) broke stride in both of her assignments back in July before being spelled. She has been performing nicely at the trials and won a trial at Bendigo last week so she is capable of showing improvement.

EARLY SPEED: 2 (possible leader), 1

SELECTIONS: IJUSTCANTSEEIT (7), NOSTRA NIPOTINA (1), MINNIE MIA (2), PIPALICIOUS (8)

RATINGS:7/ 1,2/ 8/ 6/ 4,5

SUGGESTED BET: IJUSTCANTSEEIT (7) to win

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: LE GASTON (2) was confidently supported at his debut performance and battled on fairly well for second in a solid mile rate of 1.56.5. He is a nicely bred colt and should go well again. FLY AHEAD (1) raced without cover throughout and battled on strongly for fourth at his debut. He obviously has ability and is worth an investment. SAHARA SEAKRET (3) was performing nicely at the trials prior to a debut second, where he enjoyed a nice trail and went down narrowly in a mile rate of 1.56.0. This race is of similar standard and he is worth thought again. HAROLD BE THY NAME (7) and DOWN AND DAZED (8) are both debutantes, which have shaped up nicely at the trials and must be kept safe.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (possible leader), 3

SELECTIONS: LE GASTON (2), FLY AHEAD (1), SAHARA SEAKRET (3), DOWN AND DAZED (8)

RATINGS: 1,2/ 3/ 7,8/ 4

SUGGESTED BET: Boxed Trifecta 1,2,3,8 (Cost $24)

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: BLACKJACK WHACKO (8) was resuming since April when he commenced as favourite but lost all chance after galloping away at Shepparton. He has performed nicely at the trials since and has the ability to test this field. MY MATE ACE (3) was an emergency for the Homegrown Classic at Melton on Saturday and he is racing consistently so he should be competitive against this line up. He was headed off at the start and settled on the markers when a handy finishing second at Shepparton last outing. THEROUX (4) is a fast beginner and is capable of finding the lead shortly after the start. He led out then took cover when second behind the handy pacer Razor Horizon three starts ago so he warrants respect. ILLBEYOURLOVERTWO (1) is a first starter for trainer Brad Stevens, which hasn’t been to the trials since a fourth at Bendigo in August. He is perfectly drawn so he must be kept safe.

EARLY SPEED: 4 (likely leader), 5,7

SELECTIONS: BLACKJACK WHACKO (8), MY MATE ACE (3), THEROUX (4), ILLBEYOURLOVERTWO (1)

RATINGS: 8/ 3,4/ 1/ 7

SUGGESTED BET: BLACKJACK WHACKO (8) to win

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: STEPBYSTEP (3) competed in a heat and the Final of the Breeders Crown at his first two attempts and will find this assignment to be much easier. He finished ninth in the Final of the Breeders Crown but he was finding the line nicely so he must be respected. KYVALLEY RAMBLER (9) made it through to the Super Series Final and he was placed in the Australian Gold Final earlier in the year so he has the class to test this field. He didn’t have much luck at his latest fourth. SPIRITED GIGI (8) settled three back on the markers and used the sprint lane when a handy finishing second last outing. He is awkwardly drawn but should be competitive against this line up. MISTER DEVAREAUX (5) broke stride at the 1300m and lost his chance at his debut. He performed fairly well at the trials prior so he is worth another chance. BEAU TRUSCOTT (1) is perfectly drawn for his debut and he has performed reasonably at the Maryborough trials so he is not without a chance.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (possible leader), 7

SELECTIONS: STEPBYSTEP (3), KYVALLEY RAMBLER (9), SPIRITED GIGI (8), MISTER DEVAREAUX (5)

RATINGS: 3/ 8,9/ 5/ 1

SUGGESTED BET: STEPBYSTEP (3) to win

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: SEGUI LE STELLA (5) finished off fast when an eye-catching second at Ballarat on November 27. She is backing up quickly from her effort at Geelong on Friday but she should prove very hard to beat against this line up. EEBEEBEE (10) gained a nice trail and missed out by a narrow margin when second behind BJ Robertson at Gunbower last week. She has been placed eight times for the season and should be competitive again. KEAYANG KAUNA (7) was shuffled back on the markers after commencing from the inside of the second line when third at Ararat last outing. She strikes a suitable assignment for her first run for trainer Mick Carbone and is not without a chance. MISS JOPLIN (6) worked through the middle in the back straight, came out three horses wide at the 500m and tried hard for third at Maryborough last outing. This race is of similar standard and she is worth thought again.

EARLY SPEED: 5 (possible leader), 1

SELECTIONS: SEGUI LE STELLA (5), EEBEEBEE (10), KEAYANG KAUNA (7), MISS JOPLIN (6)

RATINGS: 5/ 7,10/ 6/ 1,9/ 2

SUGGESTED BET: SEGUI LE STELLA (5) to win

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: DANCE FIGHTER (5) finished off quickly when second in the Super Series Silver event behind Alrighty on November 28 so she should prove hard to beat against this line up. BETTOR MAN (10) made it through to the Super Series Final and will appreciate a big drop back in class for this assignment. He was driven aggressively from a similar draw to move up without cover when a game fourth at Maryborough three starts ago. SAMMY HALLER (9) has shown ability in his limited opportunities to date but is still learning. He worked forward to race without cover, broke stride at the 1400m and ended up being without cover again in the last lap when a creditable fourth last outing. ALDEBARANHARLEQUIN (4) battled on well for second behind Jilliby Bliss at Gunbower and is drawn to go well again.

EARLY SPEED: 6 (possible leader), 4

SELECTIONS: DANCE FIGHTER (5), BETTOR MAN (10), SAMMY HALLER (9), ALDEBARANHARLEQUIN (4)

RATINGS: 5/ 9,10/ 4/ 6/ 8

SUGGESTED BET: DANCE FIGHTER (5) each way

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: ARRUVAL (9) worked very hard early and produced a terrific performance when third behind Springfield River (won again since) at Ballarat on November 27 then raced without cover and finished third at her next attempt. She settled in the second half of the field from a poor draw and made ground at her latest fifth so she is nearing a win. POMERANZ (7) is a debutante for trainer Kelly Stuart-Mitchell, which was placed at a recent Terang trial performance. She strikes a suitable assignment first up and is worth an investment. SORRYDREAMWAY (11) is making her debut for trainer Matthew Craven and has also been placed at a recent Terang trial performance so a bold showing would not surprise. LET’S DANCE GIRL (6) did well after leading two starts ago and is worth thought along with CAMERINA (12), which set up a genuine tempo at her latest fourth.

EARLY SPEED: 6 (possible leader), 4,7

SELECTIONS: ARRUVAL (9), POMERANZ (7), SORRYDREAMAWAY (11), LETS DANCE GIRL (6)

RATINGS: 9/ 7,11/ 6,12/ 2,5

SUGGESTED BET: ARRUVAL (9) each way

Race 8:

OVERVIEW: COLTRANE (8) is a New South Wales trained trotter, which has been taking on proven winners in Sydney so he appears to be well placed against the Maiden class. He was placed in a mile of 1.56.4 at Menangle two starts ago, which would be more than competitive against this field. MI BOW (11) has been placed in five of her past six starts so she must be considered amongst the leading chances. She missed out narrowly behind Tas Suffarell at Kilmore last week. FARSTAR (10) appeared to have his chance after setting up a slow tempo in the lead when second behind Hestuffenough at Maryborough last outing but he has been placed in three of his past four starts so he should be competitive again. IMABOGANBOY (7) and WEDGE TAIL EAGLE (9) are both racing well enough to feature prominently.

EARLY SPEED: 3 (likely early leader), 1,4,6

SELECTIONS: COLTRANE (8), MI BOW (11), FARSTAR (10), WEDGE TAIL EAGLE (9)

RATINGS: 8/ 10,11/ 9/ 7/ 2,4

SUGGESTED BET: COLTRANE (8) to win

Race 9:

OVERVIEW: MONAGHAN BOY (6) is a first starter for trainer Stephen O’Donoghue, which has had an extensive trial campaign and has shown a lot of promise. He strikes a very suitable assignment first up and will take beating. ROCKNROLL COWBOY (11) backed up some handy Maryborough trial efforts with a debut third at Bendigo ($2-30 fav). He should have benefited from the experience and looms as one of the leading chances. FIRESIDE (8) produced a tidy performance when second on debut then never looked comfortable at his next attempt. He has ability and is worth another chance. LOAN SAILOR (4) was placed against similar opposition at Kilmore last week and is worth an investment.

EARLY SPEED: 4 (possible leader), 2

SELECTIONS: MONAGHAN BOY (6), ROCKNROLL COWBOY (11), FIRESIDE (8), LOAN SAILOR (4)

RATINGS: 6/ 11/ 8/ 4/ 2,7

SUGGESTED BET: MONAGHAN BOY (6) to win
