Melton, Saturday 20 December

Form Analysis by Craig Rail

Race 1:

OVERVIEW: BULLETPROOF BOY (12) was beaten into fourth last week but he lost no admirers. He pushed forward from the second line to race without cover and fought on well in a scintillating mile rate of 1.50.5. He was a strong winner against similar grade at Melton prior and is a good chance of posting his fiftieth career victory. DANGEROUS (10) led throughout in a victory over BULLETPROOF BOY (12) prior to his latest ninth, where he worked hard early then gained a trail. He is awkwardly drawn but is proven at open class level and is worth another chance. MACH DAN (11) performs best when he is able to lead and hasn’t been able to draw the front line during his current campaign. He has won over one million dollars in Stakes and has been competitive at the elite level for many seasons so he cannot be left out of calculations. OPERATIVE LINE (5) brilliantly won the Horsham Cup last outing and has claims along with OUR LUCIANO (6).

EARLY SPEED: 2 (likely early leader), 5,7

SELECTIONS: BULLETPROOF BOY (12), DANGEROUS (10), MACH DAN (11), OPERATIVE LINE (5)

RATINGS: 12/ 10,11/ 5,6/ 2/ 3,4,7

SUGGESTED BET: BULLETPROOF BOY (12) to win

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: THE BRIDE (12) produced a career best performance when she led throughout and recorded a mile rate of 1.52.4 at Melton prior to returning to Tasmania for a shot at the Bandbox series. She finished second in the Final of that series after finding the front and kicking well clear in the back straight on the final occasion before peaking late. She has the speed to figure in the finish. EMILY VINCENT (13) settled in the second half of the field and finished off fast when a game second behind Always The Showman last outing. She is a versatile mare and looms as one of the leading chances again. JAZZY MELEA (11) is resuming since a fifth at Melton in July. She has been placed in ten of her thirteen starts for the season and is worth thought despite being first up without a trial. JOYRIDE (10) will appreciate a drop back in class from the Super Series and the Breeders Crown events so she is capable of improving on her numerical form.

EARLY SPEED: 2 (possible leader), 1,3,5

SELECTIONS: THE BRIDE (12), EMILY VINCENT (13), JAZZY MELEA (11), JOYRIDE (10)

RATINGS: 12/ 11,13/ 10/ 6,7/ 9

SUGGESTED BET: THE BRIDE (12) to win

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: BAR TAB (13) broke stride at the start in a heat of the Breeders Crown when resuming then followed with a handy finishing second behind Stately Salome, where she settled in a rearward position from a similar bad draw. She has ability when she is able to put it altogether and looms as one of the leading chances. SKY SPIRIT (10) is resuming since a fourth at Maryborough in May and has joined trainer Kerryn Manning. He is a versatile trotter and showed a lot of promise at his first campaign of racing having won two of his four starts so he must be respected. HODY MOKE (5) finished off well for a close second at Maryborough then followed with unplaced efforts in a heat and in the Silver event of the Super Series. She appears to be better placed against this line up and is worth an investment. KEAYANG MINNESOTA (3) is resuming since a ninth at Terang in October but she won a trial at Terang last week so she is worth an investment.

EARLY SPEED: 2 (possible leader), 5,7

SELECTIONS: BAR TAB (13), SKY SPIRIT (10), HODY MOKE (5), KEAYANG MINNESOTA (3)

RATINGS: 10,13/ 5/ 3/ 1,2,8

SUGGESTED BET: BAR TAB (13) each way

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: OLLIVICI (11) boasts an exceptional standing start record and commenced from the same handicap of 30m when he beat a field of similar standard last outing so he should prove hard to beat again. IM BOBBY (12) was resuming since September when he finished second behind OLLIVICI (11) and looms as the logical danger. He is very strong and strung together seven straight victories towards the end of his last preparation. GOTFEELINGSYOUKNOW (7) was placed in the same standing start event on November 29. He was held up for a run at a vital stage, switched back to the inner and finished off well for fourth behind El Resamo at Geelong last outing. He should be competitive if he steps away safely. HEZA GUN (1) is a versatile trotter and is worth thought on his standing start debut. EBONYS AVENGER (4) rates as a value hope.

EARLY SPEED: 4 (possible early leader), 3,6

SELECTIONS: OLLIVICI (11), IM BOBBY (12), GOTFEELINGSYOUKNOW (7), HEZA GUN (1)

RATINGS: 11/ 12/ 1,4,7/ 6/ 9,10

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: BEACH DANCER (8) created a good impression at his debut, where he raced without cover and proved too strong in a slick mile rate of 1.54.2. He is awkwardly drawn but is the class runner of the field and should prove hard to beat again. I AM ON THERUN (9) pushed forward to race without cover and battled on well at Albury last outing. He is racing consistently and should be competitive again. KYORETSU (13) is resuming since a tenth at Kilmore in June. He recorded a mile rate of 1.58.3 when he scored at Kilmore during his last campaign so he is capable of filling a place. THE BLAZINBOOTS (5) competed in a heat of the Breeders Crown at his first run since September and will appreciate competing in a field with less depth here. ORSINO BELLE (1) and EMMA ROX (3) both are place hopes from their good draw. LEWIELEWIS (6) and IMPEACHED (7) are also worth thought in multiple combinations.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (possible leader), 3,5,6,7

SELECTIONS: BEACH DANCER (8), I AM ON THERUN (9), KYORETSU (13), THE BLAZINBOOTS (5)

RATINGS: 8/ 9,13/ 5/ 1,3,7/ 6

SUGGESTED BET: BEACH DANCER (8) to win

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: KYVALLEY MAVEN (6) is a tough competitor, which was runner up in the final of the Super Series then was beaten by a narrow margin behind Imperial Command. He is widely drawn but should prove hard to beat again. SIX NATIONS (7) recorded slick time at his latest victory over NAKEDTRUTH (3) at Melton on November 29. He has returned from a spell in fine form and is worth thought again. JILLIBY DREAMLOVER (5) finished third in the Super Series Final behind I Am Wilma at her latest attempt. She is building up a consistent record and warrants respect. ALRIGHTY (10) performs best when he is able to lead so being drawn on the second line is a disadvantage. He did record a very strong win after enduring a wide trip in the Super Series Silver event last outing so he is worth thought. AVANT GUARD (8) found the line well last week and has claims along with KEAYANG GUCCI (11).

EARLY SPEED: 3 (possible leader), 1,4,5

SELECTIONS: KYVALLEY MAVEN (6), SIX NATIONS (7), JILLIBY DREAMLOVER (5), ALRIGHTY (10)

RATINGS: 6,7/ 5/ 10/ 8,11/ 3/ FIELD

SUGGESTED BET: KYVALLEY MAVEN (6) each way

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: SMOKEN ACE (7) progressed forward to race without cover and dominated his rivals last week, smashing the track record in the process (1.51.2). That was clearly his best run this preparation and a repeat performance will see him going close again. CALEXICO (6) was driven very aggressively to find the lead in the Super Series Final and produced a very good performance to finish fifth (3m) in an outstanding mile rate of 1.52.8 (2240m) last outing. He is a very capable 3yo and is sure to make his presence felt. SWEETNIKKILOU (9) trailed the leader and battled on well for second in the open class event won by Petracca last week. She finished third in the Super Series Final prior and should be competitive again. TWISTING BY (1) and SWEETPASSION (2) both performed well enough at their latest attempt to be considered as winning hopes.

EARLY SPEED: 6 (possible leader), 3,7

SELECTIONS: SMOKEN ACE (7), CALEXICO (6), SWEETNIKKILOU (9), SWEETPASSION (2)

RATINGS: 6,7/ 9/ 1,2/ 4

SUGGESTED BET: SMOKEN ACE (7) to win

Race 8:

OVERVIEW: SUNSTAR (9) produced a massive performance when fifth at Geelong last week, where he raced out three horses wide for the entire trip in a mile of 1.53.4. He won three races in succession at Globe Derby prior and appears to be a good value bet. ATA RANGI (6) has worked back to his peak form having won at his past two attempts. He led out then took cover when a comfortable winner over The Statestman in the Super Series Silver event at his latest attempt so he warrants respect. ROARFORROSCOE (8) will appreciate a big drop back in class for this assignment and he has been competitive at a much higher level previously so he is worth an investment. LUVA SCRAP (1), BROWNIESATMIDNIGHT (2) and ALWAYS THE SHOWMAN (3) all come into this race being last start winners and are worth thought in a strong race.

EARLY SPEED: 4 (possible leader), 1,2,3

SELECTIONS: SUNSTAR (9), ATA RANGI (6), ROARFORROSCOE (8), BROWNIESATMIDNIGHT (2)

RATINGS: 6,9/ 1,2,8/ 3/ 4

SUGGESTED BET: SUNSTAR (9) each way

Race 9:

OVERVIEW: STRAPPING RED (9) finished unplaced behind Smoken Ace in track record time last week. She led throughout at a Melton victory on November 29 and this is a more suitable assignment compared to last week so a bold showing is expected. ROCKNALLOVERTHEWORLD (3) chased valiantly when third behind the smart pacer Golden Tribe when resuming. He drew poorly at his next two unplaced performances and is worth another chance under these conditions. IDEAL MOTH (8) is a handy filly that competed in the Victoria Oaks and in the Super Series prior to her latest fifth at Melton. She might find this assignment to be easier and warrants respect. TOORAM MAGIC (4) left a trailing position to move up without cover when a creditable third at Geelong last outing. He is not without a chance from his good draw. HEZ ALL ROCK (1) is also racing well enough to figure in the finish.

EARLY SPEED: 3 (possible leader), 1,7

SELECTIONS: STRAPPING RED (9), ROCKNALLOVERTHEWORLD (3), IDEAL MOTH (8), TOORAM MAGIC (4)

RATINGS: 3,9/ 8/ 1,4/ 2,5,7

SUGGESTED BET: STRAPPING RED (9) each way
