Maryborough, Monday 15 December

Form Analysis by Craig Rail

Race 1:

OVERVIEW: FARSTAR (2) has been runner up in two of his past three starts and strikes a very suitable assignment here. He pushed forward to find the lead and battled on well for second behind the handy type Pastor Dunbar at Shepparton last time out and he is a good chance of leading throughout here. APACHEVALLEY (6) led out then took cover when third behind Me And Zac at Stawell. He is backing up quickly from his effort at Kilmore on Thursday but he appears to be a strong Quinella chance. NEDZA THRILLER (5) is a maiden from 58 starts but he has been placed nine times and is a minor place chance again. ARIVADERCHI (8) has made a couple of errors recently but is a possible improver under these conditions.

EARLY SPEED: 2 (likely leader), 4,5,6

SELECTIONS: FARSTAR (2), APACHEVALLEY (6), NEDZA THRILLER (5), ARIVADERCHI (8)

RATINGS: 2/ 6/ 5,8/ 1,9/ FIELD

SUGGESTED BET: FARSTAR (2) to win

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: SPRINGFIELD RIVER (7) produced a powerful finishing burst when a big winner on debut. Considering the final half was recorded in 57.5 seconds, his effort was excellent and he is clearly the horse to beat again. LOIERO (6) is a first starter for trainer Ian Ward, which finished second behind the smart pacer Atua Magic at a Shepparton trial effort last week and he seemingly had something in reserve at the finish so he must be respected. ILLUMINATE ME (5) is a debutante for trainer Tyrone Abela, which has been performing well at the Bacchus Marsh trials so she is not without a chance. COOPER CHUBB (2) has been competing in Super Series and Breeders Crown events recently so it is a significant drop back in class and he is capable of improving on his numerical form.

EARLY SPEED: 5 (possible leader), 6

SELECTIONS: SPRINGFIELD RIVER (7), LOIERO (6), ILLUMINATE ME (5), COOPER CHUBB (2)

RATINGS: 7/ 5,6/ 2/ 1,4

SUGGESTED BET: Trifecta 7/ 5,6/ field (Cost $14)

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: ALWAYS ON SAFARI (2) finished off well for third in what was a leader dominated race at Charlton last week. He is a strong type and has been placed seven times for the season so he will take catching if he is able to find the lead. ELCHEAPO CLAIRE (1) never appeared to be travelling well but she picked up late and worked home for third behind Daughter Ofdarkness at Shepparton. She is much better drawn for this assignment and must be considered as a winning chance. JACQUELYN JOY (9) is a former New South Wales pacer, which finished off well for fifth in the same race won by Daughter Ofdarkness last week. She should be fitter from that run and is worth a ticket each way. MISS JOPLIN (4) came out three horses wide from midfield at the 600m and battled on fairly well for fourth at Shepparton last outing. She should be reaching her peak form after having two starts since a spell and is not without a chance.

EARLY SPEED: 2 (likely leader), 4,5

SELECTIONS: ALWAYS ON SAFARI (2), ELCHEAPO CLAIRE (1), JACQUELYN JOY (9), MISS JOPLIN (4)

RATINGS: 2/ 1/ 4,9/ 7

SUGGESTED BET: ALWAYS ON SAFARI (2) to win

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: MAXIMEZ (6) lacks early speed and will settle in the second half of the field over the sprint distance but he is a handy type and should be finishing strongly. He ran a cracking race for third in the Super Series Final then couldn’t work into the race after a slow beginning in a slick mile rate of 1.56.9 at Melton last outing. BULLAPARK BENO (5) continues to race consistently and should give a bold showing again. He settled midfield and scored at Bendigo then worked hard in the run at his latest fourth behind MAXIMEZ (6). ROMANTIC NINA (1) is a very capable mare when she is able to put it altogether and is a value hope if she delivers a fool proof display. IM ABOVE THE LAW (7) will appreciate the return to mobile racing and DISTANT SUN (8) is not without a chance.

EARLY SPEED: 3 (possible leader), 2,5,7

SELECTIONS: MAXIMEZ (6), BULLAPARK BENO (5), ROMANTIC NINA (1), IM ABOVE THE LAW (7)

RATINGS: 6/ 5/ 1,7/ 8

SUGGESTED BET: MAXIMEZ (6) each way

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: ATABOY CHARLIE (5) has been performing extremely well from the standing start and looms as one of the leading chances again. He worked to the front and scored at St Arnaud two starts ago then finished second behind the smart trotter Keayang Gypsy (won again since). He is a reliable beginner and should give another forward showing. HES THEMIGHTYSPIN (8) commenced from the handicap of 20m, progressed forward to race without cover and battled on strongly for second behind SINGARA TED (6) at Ballarat last outing. This race is of similar standard and he is capable of going one better. SILENT REVERIE (10) led throughout at a Ballarat victory two starts ago then worked home well behind SINGARA TED (6) and HES THRMIGHTYSPIN (8) at her latest attempt. She does perform best when she is close to the pace but she is worth thought again. SINGARA TED (6) scored after gaining an economical trip throughout at Ballarat last outing. This is a similar field so he is worth thought again.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (likely early leader), 5 (20m), 7 (20m)

SELECTIONS: ATABOY CHARLIE (5), HES THEMIGHTYSPIN (8), SILENT REVERIE (10), SINGARA TED (6)

RATINGS: 5/ 8,10/ 6/ 2/ 7,9,11

SUGGESTED BET: ATABOY CHARLIE (5) each way

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: LOU EASYANA (4) finished off fast for an eye-catching second at Bendigo then recorded a slick mile rate of 1.55.7 in winning the Super Series Silver event last outing. She is racing in peak form and looms as the horse to beat again. KEAYANG LEXI (10) won at her first three attempts prior to an eighth in a heat of the Breeders Crown. She is a nicely bred filly and has a promising future. NOSWEETSFORYOU (11) is a strong campaigner and dashed around the field to find the lead mid-race when she scored at Maryborough two starts ago. She took on a strong field in the Horsham Cup last week and is likely to find this assignment to be more suitable. SENNA STORM (5), AMERICAN ALLI (6) and KEAYANG PAYTON (9) all have claims in a quality race.

EARLY SPEED: 3 (likely early leader), 4,5,6

SELECTIONS: LOU EASYANA (4), KEAYANG LEXI (10), NOSWEETSFORYOU (11), SENNA STORM (5)

RATINGS: 4/ 10,11/ 5,9/ 6

SUGGESTED BET: LOU EASYANA (4) to win

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: BLACK AND GOLD (7) will appreciate a drop back in class for this assignment and is worth thought despite the wide draw. She worked hard early then gained a trail when she scored nicely at Bendigo on November 26. HOLD THAT MAGIC (13) endured a tough trip and tired late when seventh at Maryborough last outing. She has been racing consistently and is capable of overcoming the poor draw. POPPY POPSTAR (4) didn’t have much luck when fourth at Charlton last outing. She was a winner at Bendigo in October and is drawn to go well. LOUIEVILLE LASS (1) is perfectly drawn and attempted to lead throughout when second behind AZALEA MAE (11) last outing so another forward showing is expected.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (likely leader), 3,4

SELECTIONS: BLACK AND GOLD (7), HOLD THAT MAGIC (13), POPPY POPSTAR (4), LOUIEVILLE LASS (1)

RATINGS: 7,13/ 4/ 1/ 2,3,6,8

SUGGESTED BET: BLACK AND GOLD (7) each way

Race 8:

OVERVIEW: MAXY BOMBER (13) sustained a long run and scored impressively in a mile rate of 1.56.4 at Ballarat then finished unplaced in the Super Series Silver event last outing. He has been placed in five of his past seven starts and should prove hard to beat again. ILLAWONG PHOENIX (9) is a strong mare, which will appreciate a drop back in class on her recent performances. She was a big winner at Ballarat three starts ago and is worth thought again. MONSIEUR FLAMEL (7) began quickly to lead, established a big leading margin mid-race and kept on running when a big winner at Shepparton two starts ago. He is likely to push forward from his wide draw and should make his presence felt. ARE WEASLEY (5) is racing in good form and should be competitive again. He was a winner at Ballarat on November 27 and he picked up a lot of ground when second in the race won by MONSIEUR FLAMEL (7) two starts ago. TELLMEBOUTIT (8) and CARUSO STAR (10) are both capable of showing up without surprising.

EARLY SPEED: 7 (likely leader), 1,2,4

SELECTIONS: MAXY BOMBER (13), ILLAWONG PHOENIX (9), MONSIEUR FLAMEL (7), ARE WEASLEY (5)

RATINGS: 13/ 7,9/ 5/ 8,10/ 2

SUGGESTED BET: MAXY BOMBER (13) each way

Race 9:

OVERVIEW: CHARLIES TACTICS (8) has done well in two starts to date and should continue to improve with the benefit of experience. He worked hard early before taking cover when second behind Courage’s Law at Maryborough last outing and he is capable of going one better now. THE CHOOK (7) is a speedy mare, which led out then took cover and finished third behind Buslin Brody last outing. She missed out narrowly at Maryborough prior and should go well again. STATELY SALOME (10) has galloped at her two starts since a long spell but she was performing well and was competitive each time she made an error so she has the ability to test this field. BAR TAB (12) competed in a strong heat of the Breeders Crown when resuming and will find this race to be easier. She is worth thought along with LADY MANCHE (13).

EARLY SPEED: 3 (possible leader), 1,6,7

SELECTIONS: CHARLIES TACTICS (8), THE CHOOK (7), STATELY SALOME (10), BAR TAB (12)

RATINGS: 8/ 7,10/ 12,13/ 3,5,6

SUGGESTED BET: CHARLIES TACTICS (8) to win
