Brighton trainer Eric Jacobson holds a strong hand going into tonight’s opening race on the card in Hobart, the Aldebaran Park Trotters Handicap.

Justtentrumps (pictured) and Majectic Ess Jay will represent the Jacobson yard and will both start off the 20-metre handicap.

“I picked up Justtentrumps when he was badly out of form in Victoria in mid-April, when Graham McDermott suggested to the owners he would be suited to racing here in Tasmania,” said Eric.

“We gave him some time to settle in and had to qualify him again and then I just worked him at home in the lead-up to his first run at the end of May.”

It didn’t take long for Justtentrumps to make his mark scoring a convincing 4.2-metre win over Stuey D.

“I was surprised how well he went, he hadn’t shown me any reason to be confident with his work leading into his debut run but both Rohan (Hadley) and I were both impressed with his performance.” said Jacobson.

He backed up two weeks later and came from behind the leader to win running away by seven metres over All The Way Mae, he hasn’t been fully tested yet and he’s back in journey tonight from the 2579-metre trip to the 2090m but Rohan is happy with his manners and ability to use his high speed to take up a handy position, so overall I couldn’t ask for anymore.”

Eric has the luxury of also having the consistent Majestic Ess Jay starting alongside Justtentrumps on the 20-metre handicap.

“He won his first two races in the state back in February and has been a consistent performer in seven subsequent runs, never finishing further back than fourth,” said Eric.

“I thought he may have had a touch of a virus last time out so we had his bloods checked, they were a little high so we got that sorted, he looks and feels good so I’m looking forward to seeing him race tonight.”

Tonight’s seven-race Tasmanian Trotting Club meeting, commencing at 18.12, may be viewed via the live stream service at tasracing.com.au
