Major Secret will renew rivalries with Hectorjayjay at Tabcorp Park Melton.

TWO of Victoria’s most promising pacers will renew their rivalry at Tabcorp Park Melton on Saturday night.

Hectorjayjay and Major Secret will square-off in the popular Del-re National Italian Cup in what will be their eighth clash.

As it stands, Major Secret holds a four-to-three advantage, with the draw also favouring the Emma Stewart-trained stallion in the feature.

Sidelined through injury last July, Major Secret returned to racing with a stylish victory at headquarters on May 21 and then repeated that result a fortnight ago.

This time around the son of Art Major will begin from the pole, with Stewart confident the five-year-old can continue his winning streak.

“We’ve been very happy with his two runs this time in and he has improved in his work since his last run,” Stewart said. “He will be fitter again and from a good draw will be very hard to beat.”

During Major Secret’s absence, Hectorjayjay has coupled a stable change with a rapid rise through the ranks, winning four of his five starts for trainer David Aiken, including the Mildura Cup.

He was also triumphant at his last start for previous trainer Simone Walker.

A strong winner of the University Meat 4YO & 5YO Championship when outstaying his rivals four weeks ago, Hectorjayjay will have to produce a similar effort after drawing awkwardly in barrier six.

“The draw makes it tough, but he is in great shape,” Aiken said.

Aiken will also be represented by Smudge Bromac from gate seven and Cold Major from the inside of the second row.

Smudge Bromac captured last week’s The HRTC Bendigo Enduro from a 10m handicap, while Cold Major is in solid form but has enjoyed no luck against open company.
