Allback Stride returns after holding off Iam Mr Brightside to win the first heat of the NSW Derby at Tabcorp Park Menangle tonight.

Team McCarthy struck a blow eight days out from the Camarda and Cantrill NSW Derby when pre-post favourite Allblack Stride drew barrier three for next Sunday’s $200,000 feature.

The Belinda McCarthy-trained and Luke McCarthy driven three-year-old star will now start favourite for the Group One feature, despite the presence of some in-form pacers.

Allblack Stride’s stablemate Bling It on will come from the middle of the pack after drawing gate seven, while New Zealand visitor Isaiah will come from gate four for the Mark Purdon-Natalie Rasmussen team after a handy third in his Australian debut at Tabcorp Park Menangle tonight.

Iam Mr Brightside, who was narrowly beaten by Allblack Stride in heat one of the Derby preludes, will also be in the action after drawing gate five for the KerryAnn Turner stable.

The draw for the Camarda and Cantrill NSW Derby is:

  1. Major Crocker
  2. Major Secret
  3. Allblack Stride
  4. Isaiah
  5. Iam Mr Brightside
  6. Cilantro
  7. Bling It On
  8. Mighty Gift
  9. Written In Red (1st em)
  10. El Fuego (2nd em)
  11. Yayas Hot Spot
  12. Royal Capone
