Emerging star horseman Dean Braun capped an audacious plan to snare the Gr.1 $100,000 Wrest Point Tasmania Cup at Hobart with Our Chain Of Command.
The former New Zealander was deliberately set for the event after creating a huge impression since crossing the Tasman earlier this year.
Our Chain Of Command has won five from six including the Melton Cup since being purchased by Braun for stable clients and had not raced since August 6.
Braun, who boasts a wonderful strike rate when racing his pacers in Tasmania had circled this event for sometime believing this was an ideal target for his rising star.
Our Chain Of Command drew perfectly in gate one and capitalised on a perfect Chris Alford drive when he stormed to victory holding out Village Of Dreams and Glenferrie Alexis.
Local star Gedlee fired straight to the front from gate two and Alford was happy to trail with Our Chain Of Command.
The speed was solid with Gedlee being peppered by The Gunstar who moved up without cover early in a lead time of 73.5 seconds whilst other fancied runners Vegas Bound, Village Of Dreams and Glenferrie Alexis raced in the running line.
The first half of the last mile was covered in quarters of 31.8 and 29.7 seconds.
Approaching the home turn after a third split of 28.2 seconds, Gedlee kicked clear which enabled Our Chain Of Command to move to the outside and offer his finishing burst.
Our Chain Of Command showed his brilliance when he easily collared Gedlee before withstanding the late closing rallies from Village Of Dreams and exciting mare Glenferrie Alexis.
The final quarter was posted in 28.5 seconds.
The 2579m event was covered in 3.11.7, a mile rate of 1.59.6.
Our Sir Jeckyl also finished well for fourth just in front of the tiring Gedlee.
The victory of Our Chain Of Command was a first for Dean Braun on the Grand Circuit stage.
“This is unreal, it's a very special moment.” Braun declared.
The astute mentor was quick to deflect the praise to his horse and driver immediately after claiming the state's biggest event.
“Chris is the best driver in Australia and he's proved that again tonight, it was pinpoint accurate as per normal,”
“I had complete faith with this horse heading into the race, his two trials have been excellent in preparation for tonight's assignment,”
“It's hard not to be excited about this horse, he's been perfect from day one with his rich talent, brilliant speed and good manners so it makes the future look very bright for him.”
Earlier this week, Braun nominated Our Chain Of Command for the 2011 Christchurch Casino Inter Dominion Pacing series.
