LET IT RIDE – Multi plays with Ryan Phelan

Every Saturday, Ryan Phelan hunts for the most reliable locks to strengthen your multi bets. By analysing race maps, sectional times, and key trainer/driver combinations, he delivers sharp insights to add confidence - and a touch of excitement - to your harness racing, thoroughbred, or sports multis.

Each selection is rated with low, medium, or high confidence and includes a suggested place or win price. The goal? Minimise risk, maximise consistency, and stack the odds in your favour for a strong overall return.

Race 1 – 2240m Dynamic Print Group Pace

1/2 Curyo Gentleman – Michael Bellman/Rod Carberry

Curyo Gentleman has been excellent in two runs back from a spell from bad draws, both times working hard and finishing strongly. From this draw, he can press forward, take control, and prove the one they all must catch.

Confidence: High    Rated Win Price: $2.50

Race 2 – 2240m Logical Staffing Solutions 3yo Graduate

2/10 Silver Pistol – Jason Lee/Emma Stewart

Silver Pistol has been racing well from awkward draws this prep. The distance suits, but this is a quality race with depth. He’s a leading chance, though not a put-in, take-out proposition.

Confidence: Medium          Rated Win Price: $2.00

Race 3 – 2240m Hygain Victory Pace

3/3 Thestatesman – Chris Alford/Alision Alford

Thestatesman finally draws well after a string of horror barriers – only three front-line draws from 12 runs this season. He’s racing in great heart and with luck can land a blow at odds.

Confidence: High    Rated Place Price: $2.10

Race 4 – 2240m Logical Staffing Solutions Tatlow Stakes (2yo Colts & Geldings)

4/1 Tappy – Glen Craven/Jess Tubbs

Tappy has shown plenty in two starts – unlucky first-up and a smart winner last time with a peach of a drive. Likely to be crossed from the pole, but if he sees daylight he’ll be charging late.

Confidence: Medium          Rated Place Price: $1.30

Race 5 – 1720m IRT Trot

5/5 Remus Phoenix – Taylor Youl/Chris Svanosio

Remus Phoenix maps to get the right run tucked in behind the speed. Stablemate Gotfeelingsyouknow is drawn outside him, but Remus represents better value in this set-up.

Confidence: Medium            Rated Place Price: $1.30

Race 6 – 1720m Hip Pocket Castlemaine Free For All

6/7 Triple Eight – Jordan Leedham/Jess Tubbs

Triple Eight drops to a winnable FFA compared to what he’s been tackling. Loves a genuine tempo and one late run. If Keayang Tokyo has to work overtime, Triple Eight is the one closing hardest.

Confidence: Medium            Rated Win Price: $3.50

Race 7 – 1720m Hertz Melton Pace

7/3 Stormryder – Jason Lee/Emma Stewart

Stormryder is primed third-up, perfectly drawn to roll forward and control. His first two runs back were full of merit under tough conditions, but this is his chance to flex his class.

Confidence: Medium    Rated Place Price: $1.40

Race 8 – 2240m Logical Staffing Solutions Argent 3yo Classic

8/3 Ideal Moth – Damian Wilson/Damian Wilson

With scratchings and a small field, Ideal Moth looks to have found her race. She should press forward, take the lead, and dictate terms in a race likely to be run single file. Very hard to beat.

Confidence: High    Rated Win Price: $1.70

Race 9 – 1720m Aldebaran Park Trotters Free For All

9/4 Jilliby Ballerini – Jason Lee/Marg & Paddy Lee

Jilliby Ballerini blotted her copybook last time but her prior form was outstanding – six wins from seven. From the draw, she can roll forward, and if she trots cleanly, she’ll be too good.

Confidence: High    Rated Win Price: $1.10
