Smart six-year-old Brickies Dream appreciated quite a drop in class when he lined up on the outside barrier in the field of seven in the $27,000 Kitty Li Member Since 2011 Pace over 1730m at Gloucester Park on Friday night.

And Henley Brook trainer-reinsman Robbie Williams made every post a winner by getting Brickies Dream, the $3.50 second fancy, away to a flying start.

Brickies Dream burst to the front after 80 metres and then was able to amble through the opening 400m sections of the final mile in 30.6sec. and 31.6sec. before dashing over the final quarters in 28.7sec. and 26.9sec. to win by just under three lengths from Goodtime Louis ($4.60), with the $1.70 favourite Copy Cat Queen running home strongly from last at the bell to finish a length farther back in third place.

“When he wants to come out, he’s very quick,” explained Williams. “And once he led my confidence levels grew. Three starts earlier he came from last to finish second to Mighty Ronaldo in the Winter Cup.

“We are hoping he can keep going forward towards better races. I think, driven the right way, he’s a Cups horse. However (in that company) I don’t think we can burn him off the gate from out wide. With the right draws and the right run, he has excellent closing speed.”

Brickies Dream is by American sire Rock n Roll Heaven and is the first foal out of New Zealand mare Kate De Goldie, who was retired after having 13 starts for three wins, four placings and $15,255. Brickies Dream raced twice in New Zealand for two thirds as a three-year-old in New Zealand in October 2022. He now has earned $185,756 from 14 wins and 12 placings from 40 starts.
