Two three-year-olds sired by Stay Hungry will be out to remain undefeated for this season when they line up in Hobart on Sunday night.

Hungry Hippo, a $41,000 2023 Nutrien Tasmanian Yearling Sale purchase, has won at his two career starts.

The Emma Stewart-trained colt won on debut in Hobart on 2 August in 1:58.0s, before winning in Launceston last start in 2:01.6s, where he worked forward to lead before dashing home in a 56.3s last half mile.

“He has been impressive, especially when first up in Hobart. He got it pretty easy (in Launceston) last week when he was a little bit too quick for them, but he is a nice type,” said driver Mark Yole.

Hungry Hippo has drawn barrier four in the Prydes Easiefeed Pace (1609m), a three-year-old and older event for horses with no more than two lifetime wins.

“He should be a good chance and will be hard to beat, and I expect a forward showing,” said the driver.

Another three-year-old looking to continue on their winning ways is Coniston, who lines up in the Vale Sammy Simpson Pace (1609m).

The Stay Hungry gelding has won six starts, including his last four in a row in Tasmania.

He is part of the Michael Laugher Victorian satellite stable, which is run by his son Jack, that has been back in Tasmania in recent weeks, having good success, including a double in Launceston on Friday night with Budd Sidewinder and Martha Lavinia.

Coniston’s most recent win came in Launceston last Sunday, where he led all the way to win in 1:57.0s.

The nine-race card commences at 16:49.
