JAMES Herbertson will take an unbeatable lead into tonight’s final leg of a star-studded Australasian Young Drivers’ Championship.

Herbertson, driving in the series for the last time, has dominated from opening night and another win and second placing from three drives at Redcliffe last night cemented his first title.

It’s another title for the 25-year-old, who has driven almost 1600 winners, including six at Group 1 level.

Of course, Herbertson is the reigning premier driver after romping home in last year’s title.

Despite more than a month away overseas this year, Herbertson is still 20 wins clear of Pete McMullen on this year’s national premiership.

While NZ drivers have dominated the AYDC in recent years, including Sam Thornley last year,  Aussies have dominated this year with the top four drivers heading into tonight’s last of 10 races in the series.

Queensland’s Chloe Butler overtook young NSW star Jett Turnbull, the youngest driver in the series, for second spot at Redcliffe last night. WA’s Emily Suvaljko, also competing for the last time, is in fourth spot.

Thornley is the best of the Kiwis in fifth spot, just one point behind Suvaljko.

Butler gets the chance to cement second spot when she drives $2.20 favourite and likely leader, Jordy, in tonight’s last leg – race one at Albion Park.

Herbertson drives $41 outsider Commodore Jujon, but his 28 point lead over Butler makes him unbeatable.
