Make Your Mark – Hobart, 24 September

Punters must wait until Sunday night for the lone Tasmanian harness meeting this weekend, and it’s a good 10-race card in Hobart. Premiership leading driver Mark Yole provides his thoughts in Make Your Mark.

Weekend best

Race 10 – 8. Remember Me Now

The big boy got the job done for us last week, so I’ve again gone for him here. He was very good there when off a slow tempo up front, he unleashed a strong sprint down the back to loop the field and then powered on to get the prize. He has a tricky draw here from the inside of the back row. I don’t think this field is much stronger, so if I can weave a bit of magic, I think he will be going very close again.

Wish I was in the sulky

Race 2 – 1. Powerhit Pascoe

I have gone the way of this one in what looks a very even race. He comes up with a lovely draw, and Rohan will have options early. There will be gate speed from Nautibutnice and if he elects to take the sit behind it then he should get a dream run and take advantage of the sprint lane. Alternatively, he could hold the lead. I really liked the way this horse found the line two starts ago in Launceston when running second. Last week he sat back and tried to work into the race but after a slow first half, it was just too big of an ask.

Under the radar

Race 1 – 7. Montana Lad

Another tough draw for this gelding. He is out of the draw, which is not helping his cause. I thought he was good three starts ago in Launceston when he had to sit outside the leader, and the winner Villaci had a cold sit on his back. He then won a very nice race last week in Launceston, so I think that form is pretty good. As I said, the draw really hurts but if he can just get a little luck he could be in the finish.

Value runner

Race 9 – 10. Proficient

Going along very nicely this season, he rarely runs a bad race. Last week he was very strong when working hard to find the top and after copping pressure down the back straight, he was very game to hold second. The draw is tough but if the emergency comes out, he will be in the running line and then it’s a matter of whether I make a mid-race move or come with one run.
