RESPECTED horseman Paul Cavallaro is riding the crest of a wave.

Cavallaro has had a pair of runners at the last two Globe Derby meetings and now boasts three last start winners.

As for the 'other' pacer, Wrangler, he finished third behind his stablemate Cullenburn in the free-for-all on Saturday night.

Having his third start from a spell, Cullenburn led throughout from pole rating 1:58.4 over 1800 metres.

"I was very happy with Cullenburn's run," Cavallaro said. "After a couple of runs back his fitness was improving and he was always going to be hard to beat if he led.

"Wrangler has had two starts this time in and will certainly strip fitter next time around.

"Overall the stable is going really well and it's always easier to get going in the morning when you're getting a winner."

Returning to headquarters Monday Cavallaro 'bookend' the program with Sir Roman and The Sneaky Fox, with both breaking droughts from the winners' circle.

In what was his fourth start for Cavallaro, Sir Roman registered his first success since scoring at Globe Derby in December 2020 when prepared by David Harding.

Driven by Dean Girardi, Sir Roman occupied the 'death seat' before outstaying his rivals in 1:56.8 over 1800 metres as Secret Jack and Star Writer filled the placings.

"He has been working great it was only a matter of time before he got another win on the board," Cavallaro said.

The Sneaky Fox emulated her stablemate by racing outside the leader, Liberty Tee Jay, before forging her way to the front in the shadows of the post to score by a neck.

Passionate Pursuit was two metres away third in 1:58.6 over 1800 metres.

Runner-up at four of her past six starts, the daughter of Art Major notched her first triumph since November.

"She is another which has been racing well, but just finding that win a little too elusive," Cavallaro said. "She certainly deserved that win."
