Tasmanian harness racing will turn pink for May, with Tasracing joining the Pacing For Pink promotion that has been running successfully in other states for the past decade.

The promotion raises awareness and funds for the McGrath Foundation and their efforts to fund McGrath Breast Care Nurses, who provide invaluable support and care to women and men experiencing breast cancer. From diagnosis right throughout treatment.

The first meeting of the promotion will be in Hobart on Sunday night, where the state’s leading driver Conor Crook will be one of many drivers wearing pink driving pants for the month.

“It’s great for Tasmania to be a part of this for the first time.

“Harness racing has raised awareness and funds for many organisations in my short time involved, and I’m more than happy to throw my hand up and help with another great cause,” said Conor.

“I must say it will be great to see drivers such as Rohan Hillier dressed up in pink,” added last season’s leading driver.

Conor has a number of chances on the Hobart card, including in-form mare Asante Sana in race six as one of his best chances to be in the winners circle with pink pants.

The Courage Under Fire mare takes winning form into the race after an 11.1m victory in Launceston last week, where she dashed home in a 58.7 last half mile, at the end of 2200m,

“She went excellent last week, and I have been happy with her work since.

“I think she can lead again, and if she does, she will be tough to beat again,” said Conor, who trains and drives the mare.

Sunday’s Hobart meeting features nine competitive races and commences at 17:18.

Tasmanian drivers and their sponsors participating in Pacing For Pink are:

  • Rodney Ashwood – Tasmanian Trotting Club
  • Jordan Chibnall – Southern Cross Feeds
  • Conor Crook – Chibnall Racing
  • Jacob Duggan – Hygain
  • Ricky Duggan – New Norfolk Hotel

  • Liam Older – Carrick Park Pacing Club
  • Ben Parker – AFI Logistics
  • Gareth Rattray – Launceston Pacing Club

The sponsorship was $400 per driver, which included the pink pants, with all funds raised going to the McGrath Foundation.

There will be several fundraising incentives at race meetings during the promotion, including a fundraising dinner in Launceston on Mothers Day, 8 May, with further details available at goracingtasmania.com.au.
