History repeated when father/son training partnership Richard and Emmett Brosnan combined to take the Gr.1 $150,000 TAB Inter Dominion Trotting Championship Grand Final at TABCORP Park, Menangle tonight (Saturday) when Maori Law held off Majestic Man and Just Believe.
Maori Law led all the way in the 3009m mobile start feature.
Forty-two years ago, Richard Brosnan was the toast of the industry when claiming the Inter Dominion Trotting Grand Final with No Response at Addington, Christchurch.
Fast forward to the current, he’s done it again this time in partnership with his talented son Emmett.
Now based in Victoria, the Brosnan’s entrusted the Grand Final drive to fellow Victorian Greg Sugars and the brilliant reinsman led them a merry dance.
Starting from gate six, Maori Law went forward and quickly took the lead away from New Zealand raider Majestic Man and Just Believe while the heavily favoured Pink Galahs made an early error.
The lead time was covered in 105.8 seconds.
Maori Law led from Caligula and Majestic Man while Humble Ladd moved up three wide to race outside the leader passing the 200m marker.
The Penny Drops quickly tracked up behind Humble Ladd and ended up outside Maori Law with a mile left to run.
The first half of the final mile was covered in splits of 30.7 and 30.4 seconds.
Maori Law had full control moving down the back straight while Majestic Man also trotted smoothly in the trail.
Approaching the home turn, Maori Law started to increase the pressure and trotted the third quarter in 28.4 seconds.
In the straight, Maori Law had The Penny Drops off the bit while Majestic Man started to make a race of it while Just Believe continued to follow the pegs.
At the line, Sugars simply urged Maori Law over the concluding stages and the richly talented trotter responded positively and safely held Majestic Man and Just Believe.
Maori Law beat Majestic Man by 1.7m while Just Believe was beaten 4.5m.
The final split was 27.9 seconds while the winning mile rate was 1:59.4.
The victory provided Sugars with his maiden Inter Dominion triumph, but it was the star reinsman’s 47th Gr.1 success.
Perfectly managed throughout the three rounds of heats, Maori Law was expertly prepared by the father/son training combination.
Since being under the care of Team Brosnan, the eight-year-old gelding has won five of his 14 starts including the Gr.1 $50,000 Australasian Trotting Championship at Bendigo on September 11.
Maori Law is raced by his breeder, Fred Crews and ranks as a half-brother to Maori Time (24 wins - $421k).
The Inter Dominion Trotting Championship Grand Final result had no immediate effect on the Australian Pacing Gold Trotting Masters with New Zealand sensation Sundees Son already have wrapped up the title last month.
The Robert, Jenna and John Dunn prepared star won three features of the six-leg series.
