Following the WA Government’s announcement regarding the Perth and Peel region entering a circuit-breaker lockdown for a minimum of four days from midnight tonight, Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) can confirm that racing, trialling and trackwork will continue under the following strict bio-security measures, irrespective of location:

  • Essential persons only on-course (please carry RWWA licence card or Essential Persons ID Card at all times).
  • Essential persons include trainers, jockeys, apprentices, drivers, stable hands, kennel hands, horse transport staff specific to animals engaged at a race meeting, trial or trackwork, RWWA staff and officials, club staff and officials, racing vision broadcasters and official race day photographers.
  • Masks to be worn on-course (except by riders and drivers whilst racing.)
  • Physical distancing must be maintained where possible.
  • Mandatory contact register – all essential persons on-course must register their attendance via the Safe WA App or manual registration.
  • Good hygiene measures should be adhered to at all times, including cleaning and disinfecting of all gear and equipment.
  • Takeaway only options for food and beverage (dependent upon individual club capacity.)

Any essential persons required to travel in and out of the Perth and Peel region for the purposes of attending trials or race meetings are required to apply for a G2G pass (www.g2gpass.com.au) as soon as possible. In the interim, Letters of Authority will be sent out from RWWA to trainers, jockeys and drivers with runners engaged at trials or race meetings who are required to cross regional boundaries.

RWWA will enlist Compliance Support Officers to be at racecourses, to assist industry participants as well as RWWA and club staff with precautionary measures on-course, including:

  • Acting as a point of contact for RWWA stewards and race club staff for all COVID-19 protocol and implementation on-course.
  • Enforcing of compliance with all on-course bio-security measures outlined below.
  • Ensuring compliance of hygiene and physical distancing measures as outlined below.

Compliance Support Officers will act under the powers of the stewards and the Rules of Racing.

Any persons who have attended an exposure site or who feel unwell should not attend a WA racetrack and should attend a COVID-19 clinic for testing.

RWWA would like to thank the industry for their ongoing patience and understanding as we navigate through these unprecedented times.
