Plans have been shelved for star colt Perfect Stride.

The Anthony Butt prepared three-year-old was being readied for this week’s Gr.2 $50,660 Garrards South East Derby at Albion Park, the second night of the much revised 2020 winter carnival.

But his unplaced effort last night (Saturday) has forced the cancellation of his trip north.

Perfect Stride finished 8th behind exciting prospect Whereyabinboppin in the Gr.3 $30,600 Farmer Joes Outlet Final in a time of 1:50.5 and never raised the hopes of his backers.

And that left Butt perplexed.

“I expected a lot more and after talking it over with Emilio (Rosati – owner) earlier today we’ve decided to bypass on Brisbane and get him thoroughly checked over by the vets and see if anything turns up.” Butt explained.

The younger brother to millionaire pacer Chicago Bull has been placed in both the Victoria and New South Wales Derby classics this season behind his stablemate Line Up while also being placed in the Gr.1 $100,000 Gold Chalice Final at Bathurst.

Star local Governor Jujon now looks the horse to beat following his outstanding form this season for trainer/driver Grant Dixon.

The Cammibest colt was primed for the South East Derby with a sharp trial at Albion Park on Friday in a time of 1:53.9.

The fields for Saturday night’s program will be released on Tuesday.
