Rue Ready For Brisbane Raid

10 July 2020 | Chris Barsby

While most harness fans will be glued to the action unfolding at Albion Park tomorrow night, the opening night of the revised 2020 Albion Park winter carnival, it might still pay to keep an eye on some of the action south of the border.

Because several southern based stables are planning a northern raid.

Miracle Mile winning horseman Mat Rue is carefully considering a Queensland campaign with a number of his talented performers from his Bathurst stable.

And some of those under consideration will showcase their skills tomorrow night at TABCORP Park, Menangle.

Authoritative and Fouroeight both start and look to have excellent chances given their recent form.

“I’d say my main players for a Queensland campaign will be Fouroeight, Authoritative and Ziggy Rocks while I’m still looking at a few others to bring north. I know there’s quite a few up there already from the Bathurst area but I’m looking forward to getting up there, I think the horses will relish the trip away.” Rue said.

Authoritative starts in the Allied Express Pace and will start from gate two, the lightly raced Grinfromeartoear gelding is building up an impressive record and boats two wins from his past three starts.

The speedy pacer has won 6 of his 11 starts to date.

Fouroeight lines up in the Ainsworth Game Technology Pace and runs from gate five if the emergency does not secure a start but takes on a strong field headlined by Ignatius.

The Rock N Roll Heaven gelding has been placed in seven of his past eight starts.

Fouroeight has won 19 races with earnings just shy of $200,000.

“I’m happy with both pacers; they’re form is really strong and they keep competing every time they step out so hopefully that trend continues this weekend.

“Authoritative is a horse with great talent, he keeps improving and hopefully we can land a good spot from his good draw, I think he’ll be in the mix while Fouroeight should prove very hard to beat depending on the fitness of Ignatius.

“I think both of these guys will do well in Brisbane, its hard racing up there but they’ll arrive fit and ready. Ziggy starts on Sunday at Dubbo and looks hard to beat, I’ve gone with a claim of Tom Pay and he knows him well because they’ve combined together for a Menangle win.”

Prior to his Miracle Mile triumph aboard Baby Bling back in 2013, Rue was based in Brisbane for a short period and enjoyed outstanding success, the gifted horseman is no stranger to success at Albion Park.
