WHILE her name is more associated to her mother, Nevaevabend’s moniker could also be testament to the unwavering patience and dedication shown by her connections.

Subject to numerous setbacks, Nevaevabend made her racing debut at Port Pirie a fortnight ago as a five-year-old!

Driven by inspirational horsewoman Leah Harvey, Nevaevabend made a successful start to her career by scoring in 1:59.1.

“She’s had a long wait and build-up to her debut,” Harvey said. “As a young horse she was put in a paddock to be freshened during her education and then just spent more time out than planned.

“Six weeks became six months, then Mick Norman just didn’t have time or room for her so eventually Mark (Carey, owner) asked me if I would like to take her on.

“Then while she was jogging up she curbed a hock, so it was back to a paddock for her.

“This time in, she has come up really well and I was very pleased with her effort to win at her first start.”

Nevaevabend will be out to maintain her perfect record when she competes at Port Pirie on Saturday night.

Although confident the pacer will improve for the experience, Harvey stated the conditions “will test her”.

“She’s come along really well since her first start and should improve again,” Harvey said. “This is a step up for her though and she has drawn the inside of the second row, so it will test her.

“If she can get a good run through and be there at the finish I will be happy.”

By Blissfull Hall, Nevaevabend is from multiple Group One winner and handy producer Nevabend Lombo.

“Her dam was a very nice filly plus I really like the Blissfull Halls,” Harvey said. “I’ve had a few and they just always give their best.”
