Saturday Night sees the running of one of the states major nights of the year, Port Pirie Cup Night.

Highlighted on the program is the running of the UBET Port Pirie Pacing Cup. This year the race will be a mobile start event over 2530m.

The race has attracted a strong field, including recent Kapunda Cup winner Condrieu trained by David Harding and Gawler Cup winner Our Jericho trained by David’s father Les. Both horses will be attempting to win their second Country Cup race of the season and take the lead in the UBET Country Cups Series.

The West End Port Pirie Trotters Cup will also be contested on the night, with the Greg Norman trained Rocknroll Baby attempting to add the feature to her list of achievements this season. She has received a 20m handicap for recent successes but will still prove very hard to beat.

One other highlight on this night is the introduction of the Allwood Stud Farm Port Pirie Derby for 3YO Pacers. The Danielle Hill trained and driven Passions delight is the sole filly in the field, however is a strong chance to make it two features in two weeks, after winning the South Australian Oaks last Saturday at Globe Derby Park.

Racing for the strong eight race program commences at 6:50pm with on-course entertainment including entertainment by Scott Everett, free face painting, jumping castle, raffles and give-aways.

Phoenix Park, Port Pirie, ‘here for atmosphere!’
