Pebble Beach

When it comes to the ranks of first season sires at this year’s Australian Pacing Gold Melbourne sale, there’s one stallion that stands above all others. It is the Alabar Bloodstock import Pebble Beach.

It’s hardly surprising, given Pebble Beach won eight races at the elite level at two and three, including the 2022 North America Cup and Breeders Crown, earned almost $2 million in prizemoney and took a lifetime mark of 1:48.2. He was the overwhelming choice as the USA and Canadian 3YO Pacing Colt of the Year.

His trainer Noel Daley said “He’s the most correct yearling I’ve ever bought. He’s not a big horse, 15.2 but he’s just spot on as a type. A great looking horse.

“He was great gaited, didn’t wear a boot and just had a wicked turn of speed with several 25 and change quarters on his record.”

Furthermore, Pebble Beach is not only the best son of burgeoning young sire Downbythseaside but the richest grandson of the great Somebeachsomewhere.

Pebble Beach belongs to one of the fastest moving families in the USA stud book, his dam, Santa Rosa (by Western Ideal) producing four sub 1:55 winners from five foals. Santa Rosa, in turn, is a sister to the world champion and four-time Grade 1 winner Vintage Master ($2.1 million) and a member of the same family as the Hall of Fame racemare Silk Stockings and the world champion May Wine.

In his first season at stud ‘down under’, Pebble Beach 94 foals and 22 of these will be offered at the Australian Pacing Gold sales including five at the Melbourne auction at Oaklands Junction on Sunday, February 15.
