Jordan Chibnall set a day of records at Carrick Park on Sunday afternoon. She drove four winners for the first time in her driving career, breaking a track record and two aged records.
One of her winners came aboard three-year-old rig Miki Sing ($1.55 fav), who claimed the day’s feature race, the Ladbrokes Tasmanian Country Championship (2150m)
Victorian trainer Mitchell Frost sent the son of Always B Miki down to Tasmania for a two-start preparation, winning both races.
From inside the second row, Chibnall got Miki Sing away from the pylons to settle midfield, before working forward to find the lead near the 1300m. From there, they had the race run to suit themselves, dashing away from their rivals over the final 350m to score by 10.8m in 2:00.7s.
“When he found the front he dropped the bit, and I had to get him back up travelling, and once he got back on the bit I never thought he was going to get beat,” said Chibnall.
In the Westwood Quarry Stakes (2150m), Chibnall drove the Conor Crook-trained Magnetic Terror ($7.50) to a track-record win, with the mile rate off his 20m handicap recorded in 1:59.4s.
Beginning safely, the gelded son of Terror To Love settled one-out and two-back before running to the lead at the 1000m.
“I saw Toddy (Rattray, driver of Star Major) start to make his move, and I always wanted to stay in front of him after I stepped so well. So once I found the top, I just wanted to keep him happy.
“It was good to see him do that as we have had a bit of trouble with his feet,” said Chibnall, who said the pacer will tackle several of the upcoming Cups in January and February.
Chibnall and Crook combined to win the first race with Ozzie Pearl ($1.45 fav), who won the opening race for the two-year-old maidens after a successful protest, in a mile rate of 2:00.6s, just breaking Horatius Speculo’s aged record of 2:00.7s.
While Ozzie Corka ($1.30 fav) ended Chibnall’s quartet of wins, when breaking the three-year-old aged record for 1670m, running 1:57.7s.
