Brodie Davis is preparing for a busy weekend with many drives at both the Launceston meeting on Friday night and the big Beautide meeting in Hobart on Saturday evening.

Davis rates his best drive of the Launceston card as four-year-old mare Kostyuk Lies in the opening race, a no more than two lifetime win event over 1680m.

The daughter of Downbytheseaside has had three starts back from a spell, with the mare set to start from barrier two after an early scratching.

The filly contested the Prelude and Final of the Group 3 Granny Smith at her past two outings.

“With Isla Athena coming out, I think she can find the top.

“The mile should suit her, and dropping back to her own grade will make it easier for her,” said Brodie about the pacer who is trained by his father, Steven.

The Davis duo will set their sights on the Beautide in Hobart on Saturday night, where they combine with the only three-year-old in this year’s field, Barbary Tales (pictured).

The daughter of For A Reason has won four of her eight starts, including the Group 3 Evicus as a two-year-old four starts ago. She was spelled after that effort and has had three starts back from a break.

The filly finished sixth last start in Launceston, but was only defeated 6.5m after settling back in the field, with the Tasracing Calculated Sectionals recording her last two quarters in 28.71s and 27.60s.

“I was happy with her run. Her sectionals were great, and she has worked well since.

“She has got the ability to be there and has been working well. She has to step up to the big boys, and we will see how she goes.

“There’s no set plan as yet, we will probably make it up when they say go,” said Brodie when asked about his plans from barrier one.
