THE Hunter Cup and Inter Dominion are the long range targets for exciting Queensland pacer The Janitor.

Trainers Pete McMullen and Chantal Turpin toyed with tackling this year's Inter Dominion, but instead opted for racing The Janitor against his own age.

After two big seconds, including in the Group 1 Rising Sun, The Janitor powered to the easiest of wins in last night's Group 3 4YO Championship at Albion Park.

“He’s the real deal. He’s fast, but really tough, too,” he said. “I probably under-drove him a bit looking back at the Rising Sun, but there’s a lot to look forward to with him.

“We haven’t thought about specifics beyond this carnival, but we will now. There’s some good races here towards the end of the year.

"And we think he's the sort of horse who can set for the big races, maybe a Hunter Cup earlier next year because he's so strong."

It's ideal for The Janitor that the next two Inter Dominions are also in his own backyard at Albion Park.

And it further adds to the Queensland flavour, hot off Leap To Fame and Speak The Truth giving Queensland the quinella in last night's pacing final.

The Janitor, four-year-old Always B Miki gelding, scorched home in 53.3sec (26.7 and 26.6) to easily beat another former Kiwi, Major Hot. He’s won 13 of 23 starts.
