Boom youngster Rewatch has been confirmed as the second runner for this year’s Ladbrokes Protostar.

The second edition of the two-year-old slot race will be held on July 12, 2025 during the upcoming Queensland Constellations at Albion Park.

$500,000 in prize money will be on offer in what is Australasia’s richest two-year-old harness race.

The NSW-bred pacer has posted two wins and one second from his three career starts, with the placing coming in the Group 1 Gold Crown Final at Bathurst in March.

The Brad Hewitt-trained colt will represent the slot held by race sponsor Ladbrokes, joining Showmethetanlines (GSM Racing) as the other confirmed runner for the race.

“We’ve got a huge opinion of this youngster and it’s terrific to lock away our slot in Australia’s richest two-year-old race,” Rewatch owner Mick Harvey said.

“He’s already shown plenty and seems to have thrived during the little break after his big run in the Bathurst Gold final.”

The son of Captain Crunch has impressed during his three career starts so far, winning on debut at Riverina in early March, before easily taking out his Gold Crown heat in Bathurst later that month.

Rewatch then pushed Message Bank all the way in the Gold Crown final on March 29.

“He’s not far off getting back to the races so we have can have him primed for the big one at Albion Park on July 12,” Harvey said.

“I’m sure he’ll be one of the major players.”

Racing in the Ladbrokes slot, the Grant Dixon-trained and driven Fate Awaits claimed the inaugural Protostar last year.

Ladbrokes Executive Director of Commercial and Industry Andrew Hannan said he was excited to see a rising star take the slot for this year’s edition.

“It was a huge thrill to be such a big part of the inaugural Protostar and win it with our slot runner (Fate Awaits) last year,” Hannnan said.

“The pressure is on to go back-to-back, so we looked far and wide for the right two-year-old this year.

“Rewatch ticks all the right boxes. He’s got the form on the board, is still on the improve and comes from one of the form stables of Australia in Brad Hewitt.

“It’s also great to team up with such a passionate owner as Mick Harvey, who is a huge supporter of harness racing and has tasted feature race success in the past with stars like King Of Swing and Hectorjayjay.”

The Ladbrokes Protostar is run exclusively for two-year-olds, making it a unique addition to the harness racing calendar last year.

The Constellations Carnival will feature over $4 million in prize money and bonuses across five weeks of elite harness racing, including 15 Group races – seven of which are Group 1 events
