Harness Racing New South Wales (HRNSW) will introduce a new Three-Year-Old Racing Policy starting from January 1, 2026, aimed at promoting age-based racing within the state.

This policy is designed to promote three-year-old racing and protect horses of all ages, encouraging lightly raced three-year-olds to compete against their own age as well as develop three-year-old racing pool across NSW.

HRNSW’s Chief Executive Peter Buckman said: “The implementation of the Three-Year-Old Racing Policy will address the issue of three-year-old races often struggling to attract sufficient entries, with many horses using concessions to compete against older horses.

“The Policy will ensure that three-year-old horses with limited experience will perform against their own age before progressing to racing against older horses.”

HRNSW will present the policy for discussion at the upcoming Race Programming and Handicapping Roadshows, scheduled for late April and early May.

Full details of the Three-Year-Old Racing Policy can be accessed here.
