Driver Cameron Hart.
IT’S one of the biggest nights of harness racing of the year.
And tonight’s Chariots Of Fire meeting at Club Menangle has gun reinsman Cameron Hart eyeing a shot at history in the Group 1 feature.
Hart won last year’s Chariots Of Fire with Frankie Ferocious and tonight hopes to become the first reinsman to go back-to-back in the big race.
Hart will partner Bay Of Biscay in the $250,000 race for four-year-olds, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary.
“It would be lovely to go back-to-back and Bay Of Biscay does look the one to beat,” said Hart.
“We’re drawn inside a few of our main dangers and I must admit I was pleased to see that.
“I’m sure we’ll be awfully hard to beat.”
Hart has a great book of drives and admitted he’s excited to be turning up on such an important night with a good shot at winning some top-class races.
While Bay Of Biscay would qualify for a start in the Miracle Mile if he were successful tonight, Hart will also be doing his best to get two-time New Zealand Cup winner Swayzee through to next week’s feature as well.
Swayzee has drawn barrier five in Race 5, the $100,000 Cordina Group Sprint but should come into gate four if the first emergency Terry comes out.
“I’m happy he’s there and I’m excited to see what he can do over the shorter trip,” said Hart.
“Swayzee brings plenty to the race and I can’t wait to let him rip and see what he can run.
“Over the shorter trip we will be looking to just get out of the gate as quickly as possible.
“Obviously we’ll try and push forward and keep him to his usual pattern of racing up on the speed and try to run a big mile.
“I’m expecting his trainer Jason Grimson will have him pretty sharp tonight.”
Hart also drives Aardies Express in the second sprint; Race 6 and she comes out of gate seven.
“She’s probably as good a mare as I’ve driven and at her best, she’s right up to races like this,” he said.
“If there’s some speed on in the race, she’ll always be running home and I’m sure she can acquit herself well.”
Hart also drives two of trainer Emma Stewart’s serious chances in the NSW Derby qualifiers – I Am The Storm in Race 2 and Go Miki in Race 3.
