Tasmanian speedster Nyack will be eyeing a spot in next week’s $1,000,000 Miracle Mile when he competes in The Cordina Group Sprint (1609m) at Menangle in Sydney’s south-west on Saturday night.
Nyack remained in New South Wales in the care of trainer-driver James Rattray after attempting to enter the $2.1m TAB Eureka last September. There, he contested the Racenet Discovery and finished down the track.
The son of Sweet Lou had a freshen-up after that outing before contesting the Inter Dominion campaign. His best result was a fourth-place finish in a heat, before having another freshen-up.
This year, the Tasmanian-owned and bred pacer won three consecutive races. His last two wins were over the Menangle mile in 1:49.0s and 1:49.8s, and his most recent win was on 1 February.
In the Cordina Chicken Farms Sprint (Group 2) Tasmanian owner Mick Maxfield will be hoping that his star pacer, Max Delight, who was placed in the Inter Dominion Grand Final last year, can also book a Miracle Mile spot.
He has drawn the pole and was only seven metres behind Leap To Fame in the recent Newcastle Mile. Prior to that, the Bettors Delight gelding won in a career-best mile of 1:48.8 at Menangle.
The Miracle Mile will have a minimum of eight and a maximum of ten starters and two emergencies.
Leap To Fame, after his Newcastle Mile win, gained automatic selection.
The winner of Saturday’s Chariots Of Fire and the first and second placegetters in two open-class sprint races at Menangle also gain automatic selection.
The balance of the Miracle Mile field will be invited from horses that contested those races.
