Captain Crunch three-year-old filly Attagirl proved too good for her rivals when scoring in the Fehlbergs Produce Sprint Lane Pace (2090m) in Hobart on Friday night.
Attagirl ($2.20 fav) is trained by Craig Jamieson, a former Kiwi who has been based in Victoria for the past three seasons.
Driver Mark Yole made the most of barrier one to lead and dictate affairs before dashing away from their opposition over the final 500m to score by 8m over Peanut Sutter in a mile rate of 2:00.5s.
“She was pretty impressive, actually. I ran along a bit and kept an even tempo. When I saw a few making their moves, I let her stride, and she was strong to the line, although she did switch off a bit in the straight but she found again when Peanut Sutter ($16) came at her.
“She is a nice big strong filly, and I think she can win a few races,” said Yole about the victory.
The win was a middle leg of a driving treble for Yole, who guided Iden Oliver ($6.50) to his maiden win when stepping out for the first time for the Christian Salter stable in the Ladbrokes Bet Ticker Pace (2090m).
“I know the horse has been a bit of a handful for Christian, but he has seemed to have ironed them out pretty well. He had a nice run behind the leader. He didn’t have a lot of room in there, hence why he hit a few marker pegs, but he did it pretty comfortably in the end,” said the driver.
Rounding out Yole’s driving treble was the Danny Malone-trained eight-year-old mare Spooky Girl ($8.50) in the Ladbrokes Racing Club Pace (2090m).
“She got a gun run in the one-one and really knuckled down up the straight and pinned the ears back and stuck her head out,” Yole said.
The Hobart meeting also saw driver Kyle Pratten record his 50th career win aboard Rocks Roy, who took the shortcuts to score at $26.
