Last year’s Premiership-winning driver Mark Yole is back with a regular column to provide insight on his weekend drives. This weekend sees racing in Hobart on Sunday night.

Race 1 – Soho Undertaker: A very lightly raced horse who is still learning his craft. I think we have just about got him sorted out after a few gear changes. Small field helps and I will be pushing forward to take up a forward position and look to run an even tempo as he lacks a bit of high speed. I think he is a great chance.

Race 2 – Jeremy Wells: Racing consistently lately without winning. I feel this is a very even race and I wouldn’t be shocked if he figured in the finish.

Race 3 – Mach Angelo: This gelding has been flying of late, He has stepped up in class which makes his task a bit tricky, however, if they go hard up front he will be right in the finish.

Race 5 – Iden Regal Wave: A promising youngster who really put up a great effort behind two smart ones in the Sweepstakes final last start to run third. He worked early and still finished off. The draw makes it very hard for him but with some luck in running, they will know he is there.

Race 6 – Sharmey: Going well and draws to get a nice soft run on the pegs, either leaders back, or three back. May be able to fill in a place from there.

Race 7 – Rocks Roy: Another who is racing very well. The draw is a killer here and I will be driving him for luck.

Race 8 – Settebello: An interesting runner who is having his first start in the state. His form in Victoria is solid and he gets into this three – five win race well. Freeasabyrd looks hard to beat, but I think I’m a good chance to definitely finish top 3.

Race 9 – Sapphire Gambler: A model of consistency he has shown he can do some work in his races. I thought he had his chance three starts ago when he led and then just got run down at his last two. From the good draw, I think he will settle on the speed and should be right in the finish again.

Best of the rest:

Race 4 – 2. Franco Tyson E/W. The hot favourite will be How Sweet at the shortest of odds, but I just feel that this guy did enough last start to justify each-way odds. I see him crossing the one horse and then Gareth can either hold the front or sit on the back of the favourite. He should run second.
