Age Shall Not Weary Him

Veteran pacer Hanover Zip, having his 232nd race day appearance, belied his 12 years when a convincing winner at Bankstown Paceway on Monday afternoon.

Superbly prepared by local trainer Paul Russo and handled by leading reinsman Blake Fitzpatrick, the Holmes Hanover gelding took his earnings to $219,340 when he came with a late run to edge out Esspee and Torida Skippa.

Locals won half the eight race card beginning when Caldetas NZ recorded his first success when an all the way winner of the CO/C1 conditioned pace for trainer and BHR & Ag Soc Director John Palmer.

Left alone in front and able to record a 67.8 middle half the Il Vicolo gelding had too much in store in defeating a gallant Fonteyne with My Own Time taking 3rd placing.

Bankstown Vice-President and local trainer Martin Herbert climbed back in the gig to land the next winner when handy 3yo Smokey Lonesome NZ was too good in the RO pace.

The In The Pocket gelding was at skinny odds at his Australian debut but after a slow beginning from the pole mark was soon in a good spot and ran out a convincing winner from Lisa Equity with Hes Makin Trax NZ finishing well for 3rd spot.

Condell Park trainer Ali Khouiss joined in the winners circle later in the day when Cairn Eddie Go narrowly downed Holmes JB and Wandary Lane to give that trainer his 11th winner this season at the Paceway.

The Sokys Atom gelding was rewarded for some honest performances of late and after being runner up seven times this season deserved his victory.

Other winners on the day were longshot Sapphire Miss for Perthville trainer Robert Abrahams, Our Conspiracy Theory for Jack Primmer (winner of 4 of his last 6 starts) and highly promising 3yo Tobermoray.

The Live Or Die gelding looked good in downing Movetimoveit and an unlucky Perfect Day in the last race of the day at his first Australian start after a strong effort on debut at Ashburton, NZ on debut.

Another superb card of well graded events will be hosted next Monday, 2nd April, all harness enthusiasts are encouraged to come to the lavish Bankstown Paceway situated smack bang in the middle of everywhere, for an enjoyable day at the races.
