New Inquiries –
- 28 December 2023– Mrs Katie Xuereb – HRNSW Stewards have commenced an investigation in relation to a report from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that Lignocaine, 3-hydroxylignocaine, norlignocaine and morphine were detected in the post-race urine sample taken from KATASTROPHEE following its win in race 3, the HALLOWEEN @ CLUB PACEWAY OCTOBER 27 & 28 LADYSHIP PACE (1720 metres) conducted at Penrith on Monday 16 October 2023.
The reserve portion and control solution have been sent to Racing Analytical Services Limited in Victoria for confirmation.
In addition, the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) has also advised HRNSW that Lignocaine and norlignocaine were detected in the pre-race blood sample taken from KATASTROPHEE prior to the abovementioned race.
The ‘B’ sample has been sent to Racing Analytical Services Limited in Victoria for confirmation.
Inquiries Conducted –
- 6 December 2023– Mr Aaron Goadsby – HRNSW Stewards conducted an Inquiry in relation to a report from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that Phenylbutazone, oxyphenbutazone and gamma-hydroxyphenylbutazone were detected in the post-race urine sample taken from LUVARESCHS following its win in race 8, the HRNSW GUARANTEED 2YO PACE (1609 metres) conducted at Newcastle on Friday 26 May 2023.
The reserve portion and control solution were confirmed by Racing Analytical Services Limited (RASL) in Victoria.
Mr Goadsby pleaded guilty to a charge issued pursuant to Australian Harness Racing Rule (AHRR) 190 (1), (2) & (4). Mr Goadsby was disqualified for a period of 3 months.
Acting under the provisions of AHRR 195, LUVARESCHS was disqualified from the abovementioned race.
Mr Goadsby has appealed the decision of HRNSW Stewards.
Appeal Decisions –
- 12 December 2023- Mr Bradley Elder appealed the decision of HRNSW Stewards to a disqualify him for a period of 10 months after he pleaded guilty to three (3) charges issued pursuant to AHRR 190(1), (2) & (4) following a report from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that Levamisole was detected in the post-race urine samples taken from;
- LITTLE RIPPER NZ following its win in race 7, the NATIONALTROTGUIDE.COM.AU PACE (1609 metres) conducted at Newcastle on Friday 4 November 2022;
- LITTLE RIPPER NZ following its win in race 2, THE FEATURE SWEEPSTAKES MAIDEN PACE (2030 metres) conducted at Newcastle Monday 7 November 2022;
- LITTLE RIPPER NZ following its win in race 2, the BESTINBEDS.COM.AU WARATAH FINAL (1609 metres) conducted at Tabcorp Park Menangle on Saturday 10 December 2022.
By decision of the NSW Harness Racing Appeal Panel, the appeal was dismissed and the period of disqualification confirmed.
- 12 December 2023- Mr Leon Jurd appealed the decision of HRNSW Stewards to a disqualify him for a period of 3 months after he pleaded guilty to a charge issued pursuant to AHRR 190(1), (2) & (4) following a report from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that flunixin was detected in the pre-race blood sample taken from MELPARK MAGIC prior to race 1, the CHARIOTS OF FIRE 18 FEB TROTTERS MOBILE (1609 metres) conducted at Tabcorp Park Menangle on Tuesday 31 January 2023.
By decision of the NSW Harness Racing Appeal Panel, the appeal was dismissed and the period of disqualification confirmed.
- 13 December 2023– Mr Jack Chapple appealed the decision of HRNSW Stewards to suspend his driver’s licence for a period of 21 days after he was found guilty of a charge issued pursuant to AHRR 163(1)(a)(iii) when driving the horse RUSTY MCCOOL in Race 5 at Young on Tuesday 5 December 2023.
By decision of the NSW Harness Racing Appeal Panel the breach was confirmed and a suspension of 14 days was imposed.
Integrity Information –
During the month of December 2023, HRNSW Integrity department obtained 709 race day samples.
As per normal HRNSW procedure all samples have been submitted for analysis.
