Regional Senior Track Attendant

The Newcastle Harness Racing Club is seeking a Regional Senior Track Attendant to be based at the
Newcastle Track at New Lambton.

This position is responsible for providing high-level professional track maintenance to the Hunter Region,
primarily based at the Newcastle track, but also requiring weekly work at Maitland Harness Training Centre and
occasionally at Tamworth Harness Racing Club.

Reporting to the Hunter Region Tracks Manager, the incumbent will have experience working as a track
attendant at a Harness Racing Venue, preparing tracks for racing, trialling and training.

This role will also require cleaning and maintenance of common areas, and grounds-keeping (including mowing
and gardening), vehicle/machinery maintenance and upkeep and general repairs.

The role is expected to work closely with the Hunter Region Tracks Manager, Newcastle Harness Racing Club
and other regional track personnel, and will have regular contact with Harness Racing participants, outside
contractors and Harness Racing NSW. Therefore the applicant is required to have a high level of
communication and a demonstrated ability to engage with a variety of different entities. The applicant must
have ability, and be able to cite examples of, where they have conducted themselves with tact and discretion at
all times.

  • Ability to be self-directed, make necessary determinations where required and be confident in offering feedback and suggestions.

Experience

  • At least five (5) years’ experience as a track attendant, preparing and maintaining tracks for racing, trials and training.
  • Demonstrated experience in maintenance of Harness Racing facilities, including vehicle/machinery maintenance; facility maintenance; grounds-keeping.

Qualifications & Licenses

  • Valid licences for motor vehicle and truck.
  • Desirable: Front-End-Loader and Backhoe Operation Certificates.
  • Chemical Handling Certification.

Additional:

  • Some out of usual business hours and on call work may be required including attending race-meetings at night and on weekends.
  • Undertake relevant and appropriate multi-functional duties as required.
  • Possession of a current NSW Driver’s Licence is essential.
