Greg Hayes announced as the new host of The Sprint Lane.

Respected media identity Greg Hayes is returning to the racing airwaves as a host of the new look Harness Racing New South Wales podcast The Sprint Lane.

“Hayesy” took the helm to launch Season 4 of The Sprint Lane with his new weekly show “Sundhayes Session”.

In the first episode he caught up with leading driver Jack Callaghan following his win in the Trotters Carousel Final at Tabcorp Park Menangle on Saturday night and the always entertaining Nathan Turnbull who phoned in from the USA after being trackside at this week’s time-honoured Little Brown Jug race meeting.

It was a taste of what listeners can expect from Hayesy in each Sundhayes Session as he recaps the previous night’s Metropolitan meeting at Tabcorp Menangle and looks ahead to the week in racing across the state.

“I’m thrilled to be back talking racing. It is a passion of mine and while I might have been out of sight for a little while, the harness racing product certainly hasn’t been out of mind for me,” Greg said.

“So every Sunday I’ll be doing something that I absolutely love and that’s talking racing and catching up with participants, owners and people in around our great industry who can give a bit of insight into what’s happening for the listeners and just simply extract some of the great stories we have to tell.”

The Sundhayes Session will be part of an expanded offering through The Sprint Lane podcast as it takes on a natural evolution since launching from the Menangle studio a year ago.

Since it commenced, more than 50 industry participants have been featured on the The Sprint Lane.

In the coming weeks a regular Tuesday show hosted by Club Menangle’s Jessica Watkins and leading race caller Fred Hastings will be added to the weekly offering. It will be released following the last race on the Tuesday program and provide fresh commentary on the midweek Metropolitan show.

“The Sprint Lane has been a wonderful addition to the harness racing landscape with its ability to give a platform to our participants and stakeholders and bring the conversation to listeners anywhere at any time, so we’re delighted to be committing to this expansion of the brand as we head into the busiest time on our racing calendar,” HRNSW Chief Executive Peter Buckman.

“Hayesy is well known across the industry and it just makes perfect sense to tap into his knowledge and story-telling skillset for The Sprint Lane podcast. We saw that first-hand with some of the great insight he brought to our coverage of the recent TAB Eureka.”

“Jess and Fred have been fantastic panellists on the show over the past year and have developed a dedicated following among our listeners. They bring a great mix of intel, banter and entertainment to the table so it made perfect sense to give them their own weekly show!”

HRNSW’s Paul Cochrane, an award-wining journalist and chart-topping podcaster, will continue to provide long-form industry profiles to complement the regular Tuesday and Sunday shows.
